Hi all,

I purchased a Rampage II Extreme a couple of days ago and have been trying to use the built in EZflash2 feature to update the BIOS to the latest one, as 0503 was shipped on the board.

Anyway, every single BIOS file I download from Asus's support site results in EZFlash2 informing me that "Error occured while reading the file!" Has anyone else had this problem or found a fix for it? Also I have had to keep the unzipped BIOS file on a HDD when trying to flash, as EZFlash2 cannot see my USB memory stick for some reason.

You simply cant flash from a HDD, you either need to put it on a floppy, CD or USB keystick, you say it cant see your USB, sounds strange, have you tried different USB ports in case the one youre usng isnt working?
More importantly do you need to flash your BIOS? Normally with a BIOS update if you get an error during the flash it means your board is now dead, so I take it youre getting the error before the flash even starts for you to have multiple attempts. You should only flash your BIOS if absolutely necessary because if it goes wrong = dead mobo

yeah ONLY if you need to, E.G compatiblity issues with say the CPU or for memory etc.

saying that are you using asus own update utility? if not you could have got the wrong BIOS. I never had any problem with mine, but than I used the asus update rather than EZ flash, but I downloaded the file myself cos its faster. for some reason

You shouldnt use Asus updater, it is inherently poor, often leads to runining your BIOS, theres loads of threads on this, EZflash is much more reliable

I must be lucky, no it was not the rampage I flashed it was my ROG maxumis. I seem to rember using asus update, but I also rember using DOS promt as well "EZ FLASH" o_O oh thats right I chickend out of using the asus update and used something else. LOL sorry bad memory xD

Thanks for the reponces guys.

I've found out what the problem was when it came to flashing with the ROM file on the HDD. EZFlash2 can only read FAT32 formats and as I'm using Vista, which uses NTFS, it couldn't read the file.

I still can't get EZFlash2 to see my USB flash drive, which is formatted as FAT32, so I'm going to try and borrow one from a mate to see if his works. Failing that, I'll have to use a spare IDE HDD formatted as FAT32 instead.
