Not scary?
The thing is, with all horror media, is it only works if you really try and 'get into it'. To really pretend you are there. Horror genre takes more effort from the user than any other genre I think.
you see, it's very easy to diss any work of horror. To watch horror films and think 'Yea whatever it's a bloke in a plastic suit pretending to be an axe murderer how boring'.
But the fact is you're just kind of ruining it for yourself. You've paid for the media (I hope) - trust me -- you'll have more fun if you try and pretend you're there. Not take the easy, but rubbish route of 'I'll bust into the room as fast as I can who cares what ghosts I see they don't harm me'. Creep into the room. Pretend you're actually there. Try and panic yourself up a bit! It's just, simply, more fun!
FEAR 2 should only be played at night. The lights should be off. The volume should be cranked up an extra 20%. But the most important thing is to psychologically try and get into it. Don't think 'Yea none of these ghosts reduce my health so who cares boring' as you lump through the level as fast as you bloody can. Yes, that'll make it naff. Think 'Jees this is scary stuff happening round me'.
People who say it's not scary .. well .. I hate to say it but NOTHING that isn't real is remotely scary (to adults), unless you .. er .. put your imagination into it a bit!
I could take the mickey out of any horror media I've ever seen easily. It's EASY to not be scared, and just think 'it's a computer game for goodness sake who cares' -- , but simply no fun!
