f.e.a.r. - Not good for me

Try completing it on an old Athlon/9700 system, then its scary. Control lag, stutter, you can't quite make out that funny blocky thing ahead... *dead*

Then update to a C2D/1900XT system with a new high DPI mouse, suddenly its running at 100+FPS, everything is as clear as day and your shots alwasy land exactly where you want them. You start laughing because where before you were running for your life and desperately slugging it out in a room full of enemies, suddenly you're balletically spinning right in the middle of them, unloading kicks and shotty blasts everywhere, feeling like a superman. :D

just started playing this tonight and i am s###ing my pants! it is so scary. just had to turn it off. (not even completed one level!

I am a 29 year old, 6"2.

'its only a game, its only a game'

will try again when I'm feeling brave :)

I tend to put myself in the place of the character in both films and games & therefore brick it rather easily too - I've thrown my mouse across the room jumping out of my skin before :) Those who are all so brave and courageous simply aren't letting themselves get involved enough!

Yeah I know I'm just a wuss :)

/edit: Oh, and when I finally got Condemned to work, I played the first level, and turned it off :)

You've obviosly not been playing games THAT much

I've just completed FEAR didnt jump once, nice game

I suppose you dont like Horror movies either? :)

Not True

I "tried" to get really into it in that sense, so i can try and "feel" the storyline/characters etc

Yep... pretty scary, but nothing compared to the wife in the morning!

That little girl in FEAR turns into that one from The Waltons compared to vision of my wife in the am!!!!

Real fear!

Nothing will make me jump like the day I got home with the newly released PS1 version of Resident Evil. There I was thinking, "hang-on this ain't that scary" when all of a sudden a zombie dog just launched itself through the window and into the 'L' shaped hallway to the right of the main mansion entrance.

Good god, I must've gone at least 6" off the chair and threw the controller out of my hands. :o

Anyone remember AvP? A frikkin flashlight and a popgun against acid spewing wall climbing razor sharp aliens. Grrreaaat.

Nothing to do with Fear but the other day I started playing Silent Hunter 3 again, the sub sim. I was patroling on the surface in high wind conditions. I switched to the 3D view of the bridge of the sub just as a huge wave engulfed the whole bridge sending everyone under water for about 3 seconds. Sounds daft I know but I actually suffered a gag reflex. Hows that for immersion in a game, literally.

finished the first game a while back, started playing the expansion recently but could not finish it in the hospital, too scary will come back to it eventually...

i actually went a bit further then you before i uninstalled the game. i didn't dare play it any longer. i'm not affraid at all but the physiological elements and sound effects did get to me a lot. the gameplay is the main reason i didn't finish it because i couldn't get into it at all

lol, F.E.A.R....pitch black room, headphones.....and a ******* housemate who decides to pounce on me from behind....scared the hell outta me :p

edited your post mate please

i remeber things like this for DOOM 3
remeber that vid with them 2 young kids? :p lol

Another game that made me jump a few times was Condemned criminal orgins. I know it does not have any imps or ghouls but when some crackheads run and hide in the corner and when you go near them they jump at you. Scary stuff!!
:

Fear didn't scare me at all.
Far Cry had me on edge, just because the monsters were so fast and hard.
Doom 3 was a bit scary, but only in a mildly monster-in-the-cupboard-BOO! fashion.
System Shock 2... the graphics are crap but it scared me loads. The whole game has an all pervading feeling that something has gone terribly, horribly, badly wrong on that space ship, and you are so alone. It's the psychological factor.

One of my favourite gaming memories involve a mate of mine (who now works for Eidos incidentally) playing AvP and literally jumping out of the chair ending up on the floor when an Alien ambushed him! :D
