Hey all,

Got hold of F.E.A.R and wondering what my computer should handle

Intel E4300 @ 3.01GHz
Geil 1GB Ultra @ 836mhz 4-4-4-12
Nvidia 7600GT stock

It won't run smoothly at max so had to tone it down to medium and runs smoothly. Does this sound about right?

yeh there abouts - a 7900 or a 7800 for that matter would run it next to max - 7600 shoule struggle a wee bit - fiddle with AA etc and see if you can get some other sliders turned up

Not really, 1 gig not enough for fear as it uses about 1.4 gig if you only have 1 gig you get hard drive been used a lot, when i played it i upgraded from 1 gig to 2 gig and it improved a lot and only got a judder when it did a save at a checkpoint at the time my system was amd64 [email protected] and 2 gig ram and a x800xl, bf2 was the same at the time aswell but not played that.
At the time fear was out there was a big post about it and 2 gig ram.

1GB ram is fine for a 2005 game

Are all games specced by the year they're made in?

If so, FEAR isn't a 2005 game. The game will run, but it would run 'healthier' or simply better on a 2GB system.

when everything is maxed, its playable but doesnt refresh fast enough when walking, havent tried action but suspecting will be worse.

I just thought I'd ask because this is really the only game I've gotten hold of to test my system properly and just wondering what I should be expecting

2GB is definitely required if want to play at maximum texture resolution (unless you can tolerate severe stuttering), otherwise medium resolution is fine with 1GB.

i've been playing it on medium and is fine. Doesnt look bad at all. will do the shadow thing. I want to get rid of this RAM anyway even though its stable and shove some 2GB in my machine as I feel it deserves it.

is going to be july time I will be swapping the RAM or September depending on circumstances but I'll be happy if the prices of it stay roughly around what they are now

turn soft shadows off and you will be fine with all other details at max depending on your resolution.
On my 7800gtx system i turned of all shadows and it ran well at 1600x1200 with AF/AA, i was using 2 gig ram as well, all other settings to max.

yeah sounds about right, you really need 2gb Ram to play Fear maxed as said above, stutters like hell etc... with only 1gb when maxed. :)

I run it maxxed fine with only 1GB, yea I get some stutters, but not majour stutter and not often, but I cant play F.E.A.R XP though, thats a no go for some reason and it looks the same as F.E.A.R graphics
