F.E.A.R - Settings with this setup?

Just installed F.E.A.R , first game installed on new build

Windows XP Pro
Gigabyte DS3P
C2D 6300
EVGA 640mb 8800GTS

All running at stock speeds, will OC once I lap the CPU.

Should I be able to run F.E.A.R on maximum settings without problems? Have tried on High and its a bit skippy - am I expecting too much or is there any settings I need to change from stock?

Try changing the settings in nvidia control panel. I found if i disable antialiasing - gamma correction it gives me a much smoother game and my games looks identical and also make sure the gpu is set to single display performance mode. Hope that helps ya mate

How much ram do you have, 1GB will probably be too little.

I have 1gb of ram and i play FEAR fine at 1680 by 1050

In F.E.A.R I can't even get to 1680*1050 , doesn't have it in the settings

Should be able to run it on maximum, i do at 1280x1024, 2xAA/16xAF everything else maxed (apart from soft sahdows as they dont work with AA), and i get 59 minimum, 107 average, and over 200 maximum.

You need to open the Settings config. file with notepad and put your resolution in as it only goes to 1280x960 in the game.

You find the settings config in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR, just open it with notepad and change the res to the one you want, then save.

When you load the game though, don't go to Display in the Options (at top) as it resets back.

That might be your issue there. Have you patched FEAR up to the latest (1.08)? A patch after release added widescreen support, and fixed lots of performance issues etc, so if you havent already, try patching to latest and then see how it goes

What is the filename of the config file? Can't seem to see it in the game folder

What monitor are you using. May not be showing that res because the monitor doesn't support it!

I've seen HL2 run at 2560x1600 on my mates Dell but i can't use that res as i have a lowly 22" screen with a 1680x1050 res.

Samsung 226BW so shouldn't be a problem - Windows supports it fine.

Waiting for the update to finish downloading, will try again once that is done

remember to download the latest patch for it, it adds dual core suppourt so should increase performance by a bit
