Hi guys,
I ordered FEAR about a week ago in preperation for my new PC components arriving from OC but they haven't arrived yet so I'm currently trying to get it to work on my current PC.

It meets the recommended Specs but the graphics card and processor only scrape it.

Anyway, I just inserted the DVD into my computer but it didn't auto run, so I went into 'my computer' but the DVD wasn't recognised as if it's a blank CD. When I tried to run the CD by clicking on the drive it stopped responding and crashed.

The game does however load up on my brother's computer which is almost identical to mine.

Does anybody have any idea why my CD/DVD combi Drive wont recognise the disk?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I tried several other CDs/DVDs in my drive and they worked but found something interesting...

my brother and I switched DVD drives (both identical drives) so if it worked I'd know the problem was my drive...turns out it is, his DVD drive in my computer loaded the game up straight away.

Any thought on why my identical drive wont play the game while my brother's will?

Thanks MoNkeE, I tried that but ran into a problem immediately, here's my Device Manager:

As you can see there's 6 devices and I don't know which one's properties I need to look at. Besides, when I right click>properties on one of those 6 devices a box similar to this comes up. (<--linky)

It doesn't look like your box, any ideas which one it may be or how I can find out?

None of the devices have the CD pic of yours.

The only 'property box' that has that CD image is the devices in the CD/DVD device catagory like this:

My computer always has to be different huh :)

I don't think it can be a software problem...

My brother and I switched drives (identical drives) and my brother's drive worked perfectly in my computer. However, my drive wouldn't work in my brother's computer.

So I'm guessing it's a hardware problem, any idea what could cause that or is it just zonked?

Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look at my firmware but I can't install the patch for the game because I can't even install the game.

EDIT: I've just realised, it can't be firmware or any other software problem:

Firmware is the software actually on the hardware - not part of the drivers :)

Oh I see, I just looked on the official website and I'm slightly confused though, it warns you that if you install the wrong Firmware your hardware could be destroyed and on top of that I'm not sure which version is for my drive.

My drive is.. TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552b.

Firmware doesn't seem to have a version for my drive.

EDIT: I just found a firmware driver for Toshiba TS-H552A...will that work?

P.S: da_mic_1530, I did leave it in for a little while before because I've had a similar problem with another CD but I either didn't leave it in long enough or it didn't make a difference. The one time I left it in for about 5 minutes it asked me if I wanted to write to the blank disk! (at least it recognised the disk though :))

Guys I've got a new drive now so I've installed FEAR.

But today I went to load it up and McAfee brought this up:
fearadwareav3.jpg

Is that meant to be there or should I delete it?
