everytime i get this problem (its DVD games) i leave the disk in the drive for 10 mins, it sounds awful, but then loads up, you could try that

the drive sounds like its starting and stopping loads, ive done this for 2 years and it causes no damage to pc or disk

Firmware is the software actually on the hardware - not part of the drivers :)

Oh I see, I just looked on the official website and I'm slightly confused though, it warns you that if you install the wrong Firmware your hardware could be destroyed and on top of that I'm not sure which version is for my drive.

My drive is.. TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552b.

Firmware doesn't seem to have a version for my drive.

EDIT: I just found a firmware driver for Toshiba TS-H552A...will that work?

P.S: da_mic_1530, I did leave it in for a little while before because I've had a similar problem with another CD but I either didn't leave it in long enough or it didn't make a difference. The one time I left it in for about 5 minutes it asked me if I wanted to write to the blank disk! (at least it recognised the disk though :))

Guys I've got a new drive now so I've installed FEAR.

But today I went to load it up and McAfee brought this up:
fearadwareav3.jpg

Is that meant to be there or should I delete it?

Yeah thats fine , its just as FEAR needs to access the net to update etc , say YES :P PUP - what files you want to access the net etc you can change it if you want in the Mcafee settings

Yeah, FEAR is boring...

I think dvd drive is bust to be honest. They are cheap enough to replace and as its two years old you probably will be looking at a better drive for less money..

Mine has packed in..

So I know how you feel...

Although my old liteon cd burner has gone the distance thru 3 computers now. Way to go...
