Just going for the basic 3.0Ghz Woodcrest model is £3000 plus.

Its so true though, gigabyte are the worst for it. Although these days board manufacturers seem to prefer dodgy names like premium, deluxe, royal, extreme, pro etc conjured up by chinglish speaking marketing men in taiwan which are equaly meaningless but at least pronouncable and memorisable.

You are right, atleast the Gfx card manufacturers stick with the car names like GT, GTO, GTS.
I wonder if Intel thought the C2D names would correspond to the AMD counter-parts but added the 2 zeros on the end to disguise this.

I believe C2D names are designed simply to be higher than Amd numbers. Amd was using numbers in the 5000 range so Intel chose to use numbers in the 6000 range.
