I'm new to this, and wondered what kind of machines others are using for their folding goodness. Are you using lots of average machines, or have you built uber computers?

I'll start off:

Desktop:

Opteron 166 @ FX-57
1GB 233mhz

Laptop:

P4M 1.7ghz
756mb godknowswhatspeed

Also, how will I know if I'm kicking out faulty WUs? My OC is stable as far as prime etc is concerned, but want to be sure.

Cheers

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ @ 2300MHz [soon to be higher]
2GB OCZ PC3200

EDIT: I think you get your WU count increased but no points given for it. Remember XFi last week having like 8 WUs done but no points.

You'd know if you were spewing out bad WUs if you read the string EARLY_UNIT_END in your logs. Usually the best way to observe such htings is to look at your EOC page. If you were spitting out bad work you'd see lots of WUs returned with very few points credited.

Most people seem to have fairly new rigs as their main machines and a few older machines as backup. A few of us have built uber machines for the purpose of crunching. Bigstan has loads of them built just for crunching.

I'm assuming you are Oli in the team stats

If so looks like you've been chruning out some good ones so far :)
I'll have a quick look through your official stats page to see what projects you've had and if the points match up with fully completed WUs

as for my rigs I have a few SocketA rigs but the pride of the fleet is an X2-3800 currently at stock with 2x512MB Corsair TwinX (if memory serves correctly - pardon the pun :p)

welcome :)

edit: you've had the following WUs
p992 - 130pts
p1717 - 116pts
p1719 - 116pts
p2099 - 226pts
3x p2505 - 3x 200pts

total 1188pts - spot on!

yep all WUs present and correct so far (I put a breakdown in my earlier post)

generally if your machine is unstable it'll sit there just failing WUs within minutes of starting them - seeing as you've completed 7 WUs so far without a single EUE (early unit end) I'd say you can be pretty confident in your systems

Currently pretty average rigs...

AMD 1000mhz @1200mhz (motherboard will only go to 120FSB >_<) 512mb
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (stock 1800mhz) 512mb
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (stock 1800mhz (unoverclockable)) 512mb
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (stock 2000mhz) 512mb

Intel Pentium 4 (stock 2500mhz (unoverclockable)) 512mb

:)

Currently have:

Opty 170 + 2GB @ 2.6
X2 4400 + 2GB @ 2.6
X2 3800 + 2GB @ 2.85
4000 SD + 1GB @: 2.5
3500 Venice + 1GB @ 2.2
1.6 GHz Centrino laptop

Will be losing the 3500 soon (giving it to my kids) but will be replacing it with either another X2 3800 or an 805D (or both ;) ).

When I get my caravan sold, I will be buying another 2 high end rigs and signing the 4000 over to Zip's account as the poor soul only has a celery to fold with :p

805 dual core @ 3.7ghz... got a few little mods planned so with any luck it should be 4ghz soon. Little pencil mod on the board, 120mm akasa amber onto my freezer 7 pro and some new ram
