F1 2011 Car Launches

Have to say, i think the Sauber is the best looking car/livery so far

Quite funny seen as it was one of the worst looking cars with the most boring livery last year!

Just to clarify, is the Renault-Lotus team owned by Renault or is this an independent consortium merely using customer Renault engines?

Again?

Lotus Renault GP is 100% owned by Genii Capital and only sponsored by Group Lotus. They are using the enstone factory previously used by Renault and are using what was the Renault works engines.

Team Lotus-Renault are owned independently of Group Lotus/Genii/Renault and are using Renault customer engines - which due to the various agreements in place with the FIA and the FOTA, are exactly the same as the Renault works engines, but cost money.

Something funny thats been posted around a bit - Renault keep using "Black to the Future" as their slogan for the launch. Funny, as with the Lotus sponsorship they now have, it is really sensible to bring back Delorean memories?

So what happened with the £156 million from the government and the $24million is colombian dancing dust again?

...and which team are people in support of on these forums? From what you've said Lotus Renault GP seem to be the "real" Lotus, as they at least are being sponsored by Lotus.

I'm sorry, I'm not clued up on the smaller teams, especially when there are 2 teams who have very similar names. I'm sure I shall get used to the naming system as the season progresses but as the season hasnt started yet, I'm new the Lotus naming system.

Group Lotus have never had any connection with F1 other than a year of sponsoring Team Lotus in 1994.

They were seperate entities and were not even in the same factory, although very close to each other. This was due to if one company went down, it wouldn't take the other one down. Which is what happened.

Team Lotus was sold off in 1994 and has been owned in recent years by David Hunt as part of Team Lotus Ventures. This was purchased last year by Tony Fernandes and the rest of the Team Lotus senior management. Group Lotus had several opportunities to purchase Team Lotus Ventures over the year and they haven't.

During the David Hunt years Team Lotus was operated as a racing team at the end of 1994 and then in conjunction with Pacific in 1995 which formed Pacific Team Lotus.

Personally, the only real Lotus in F1 is Team Lotus, as they design and build the car themselves and has a connection to the F1 history. Group Lotus have none of this and are currently being taken to court for passing off - trading on the Team Lotuus history - which if you have been to the cars Lotus factory or read any of their current sales literature, is blatently obvious.

One team is spending it's own money to design, create and race a F1 car.
The other is taking out massive loans to pay for someone else to do it.

Colin Chapman brought major team sponsorship to F1, but to bring money to the team, not to give money to another team...

The Lotus Renault GP R31 is a Lotus in the same way that the Vodafone McLaren MP4-26 is a telecommunications company or the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro F150 is a cigarette. Not at all.

Is the green car the "real" Lotus?

I'm about ready to give up on working this one out. :p

IIRC, the car which Kubica is going to drive is formerly known as Renault. The colour is black and this is not the "real" Lotus.

Flippin' 'eck sunama, read up on your sport! You sound like someone who's never even seen a GP!

Read Flibster's link, explains it perfectly in that flow chart.

The flow chart give no details about the colours of the cars. The easiest way to distinguish between cars, while they are on track is their colour scheme. Simple.

The Yellow Renault of 2010 has now evolved into the Black Lotus of 2011.
The Green Lotus of 2010 remains the Green Lotus of 2011.

...and Lotus fans seem to be supporting the Green Lotus and not the Black Lotus.

Is the above correct?

It really confuses me how you seem to be really up on your stats and knowledge and all, yet have let everything Lotus related pass you by, Sunama.....

Yes.

*curls up in a corner wimpering*

Doesn't bode well for the future of the sport.

What team do you support?
The blue one.

It really wan't that difficult to work out. Lets hope no teams run a special one off paintjob this year, it'd cause mass panic.

The future? You'd think sunama was a leading authority on F1 racing the way he has always posted in here, but when it comes down to it he just likes to see the red car and the blue car have a race :D

Can you imagine if we had NART Ferraris nowadays. Or Gendebien's Sharknose? Sunama would be completely lost!
