Figured that might prod you into a 'fixed' quote ;)

And yes, that's exactly right. RBR won, and a few teams are apparently having a hard time dealing with the idea. Maybe they thought that the Newey Magic™ had gone forever following a few poor (by his previous standards!) cars - the MP4-18 that never raced, the initial iteration of the MP4-19 that wasn't hugely quick and pretty unreliable with it, the MP4-20 that was quick but blessed with poor reliability like it's predecessor and the MP4-21 that never won a race and sent Juan Montoya off to go enjoy himself in NASCAR. Oh, and how could we forget the RB4 that was beaten in the final standings by the Torro Rosso in '08?

He's rediscovered his old touch, and designed a car that deservedly beat all comers. You could argue that the previous car really ought to have beaten that lashed-up starting money special that Brawn fielded, it was certainly a much better and faster car by the back end of the year but Jenson kept grinding out points finishes.

I for one can't wait to see what RBR come up with for this year.

"Nail on the head " never seemed more deserved mate, to be fair i think Ferrari and McLaren have spent so long watching [stealing sometimes] from each other that they took their eyes off the ball somewhat. We are getting the flack that comes with success, if we had been also rans then nobody would care a jot what we did.

For obvious reasons i cant go into any detail about the car other than to say its not bad :D

But wasnt this whole thing kicked off by RBR sticking their hand up and asking for exemption from the budget agreement?

Anyway, for 2011, is anyone else excited about the prospect of atleast 6 drivers up the front end again. If RBR, McLaren and Ferrari continue their form were in for a treat. Then theres also the possibility that Mercedes get there act together, and also a midfield team could strike it lucky with the new Pirellis and suddenly become competitive.

Cant wait :)

I'm waiting for his 2013 car. Newey always seems at his best when there is radical changes in the rules and he can stretch his mind.

Normally, I would completely dismiss Mercedes out of hand, if only because they don't have a top line driver on-board (given that MSc is a shadow of his former self and Rosberg lacks the nth degree of speed to compete with Hamilton or Alonso). However, when Alonso says that he feels that MSc may well be one of his main competitors in 2011, you have to take MSc/Mercedes seriously.

but then again everyone said that this year. Some even said MSc would win a race!

People were expecting Mercedes to bring a car to the party that could actually challenge for wins. As it turned out, they built a car that just didn't work well enough often enough. This season, they've got a chance to catch up. Pirelli tyres coming in, the banning of the F-Duct, no more double diffusers, the return of KERS, moveable rear wings, no more shark fins (finally got rid of that affront to aesthetics!), weight distribution now mandated at 46:54....it's going to level the playing field in a few areas, and introduce enough complications for teams that Mercedes will almost be able to treat it like a fresh start.

It's pretty much 'make or break' for them really. They need to be properly competitive this season with both cars, or Mercedes upper management are going to get very bored. Make or break for Felipe in the less-favoured side of the Ferrari garage as well, would be great if he won the German GP this year even if he doesn't get anywhere near mounting a title challenge :)

I'm not sure why people said this, it obvious it was a one off year for them and the following car was going to be fairly average - they couldn't keep up the development against the other teams during the 09 season.

It is possible RBR spent too much time on last years car, they could be the new mercedes of sorts from last year.

I'm sure that most of the other teams are hoping the same. But I highly doubt it.

Ferrari stated that they had a strong finish to last season and as such they felt they had a great platform to build 2011's car, from. RBR have an even better platform.

Where RBR may falter is in the KERS department. Out of the top 3 teams, they are they only ones not to have run KERS in 2009.

The first test is what...2 weeks away? So, not long till we get an indication of just how quick everyone is.

What they lack if KERS I have a bad feeling they will make up with aero and mechanical grip. I can see them being just as strong this year, with McLaren trying to use their superior KERS to bridge the gap like they have in the past. I mean, the teams still don't know how RBR were so fast last year!

That's what I think. They were great in 2009. Fantastic in 2010. I just can't see them disappearing into the midfield over a single Winter.

If McLaren and Ferrari can give their drivers a car which is almost within touching distance to the RBR, then I think it will be a close fight. If like last year, RBR is between 0s-1s/lap faster than the rest, then Vettel should be able to win the title with ease.

It may be very difficult to tell who has a quick car from testing, with ARW and KERS, perhaps raw speed wont even be a contributing factor to a good car, just bragging rights. Good exit through a corner, hammer the KERS button until you are range of ARW and then zoom, you are faster than the car in front and overtaken him.

One thing i hope they do is to allow ARWs for lapped cards to tail the front runners. If you have to give way and lose time, suddenly getting a speed boost to make up that time should make up lost ground.

I think its more like
A liberal understanding/bending of the rules.
Some good inventions (unknown to others)
A very compact/tight chassis (which Newey is famous for)
And a hard-working team who busted their balls to make things happen (we know this because Newey, at some stage of the season, was being accused of working the design teams too hard).

Now lets see if RBR can do it all over again. I hope they don't (sorry Nuts), as I want Hamilton to win the title. :p

What is shocking is the sheer amount of Red Bull that the team seem to drink. I remember somebody commenting that perhaps they replace the RB fluid with plain water, as drinking that much RB would be dangerous. I think Nuts replied to say that no...there is no water substituting going on and that the team members really are drinking "that" much RB.

I'm surprised nobody in the team has had a heart attack yet...or have they?
