F1 2012 Calendar

Put it another way. Next year we have 21 races. That, I believe, is a new record for the amount of races in a single year. That tells me that there are plenty of countries happy to pay big money to host races.

If a track doesn't want to pay, they can drop out and the GP can either be taken off the calender and instead of 21 races, we do 20 races, which I believe, would also be a new record.

The problem with dropping prices (which is what I think you are suggesting be done) is that if you drop the price for one country, you then have to start dropping prices for other GPs. It would be unfair to charge India £30M and charge Turkey £5M. Once you have reached a certain price point, its best to just stick with it, unless you have very few countries willing to pay (which at this stage, is certainly not the case).

Bernie is a top class business man. He knows what he is doing.

If I was running a huge company, I would leap at the chance to get Bernie to run the commercial/sales side of my company, as he is the absolute best when it comes to securing big contracts, especially with new clients (emerging countries). Selling GPs for £millions is not an easy task to do, but he is making it look very easy right now.

You don't seem to understand that fia obviously wants it and no other race track can take it's place in 2012. So why not a one year deal at a cheaper price and then drop it from 2013.

Because if you start giving discounts to one race, you will have to:

1. give a discount to Turkey and all other countries on the pricing; or
2. give Turkey a discount, but not to other countries; so you will have to justify to those other countries why you are doing a special deal for Turkey and not them.

(2), is not easy. You try explaining this to a customer and you will understand.

Its better to completely drop Turkey from the calender and reduce the calender to 20 races, which would still be a new record.

Also, the FIA don't NEED the 21st race. But they do want it to happen, if only because it brings more money in and gets F1 into yet another country.

Personally, I think that the Bernie will drop the price (just a little), but not to what the Turkish Government want it to be. The final fee will probably be between 13 and 26 million dollars.

Perhaps this is just a ploy to open negotiations to get contracts signed for the next few years...who knows what is going through Bernie's head? But you can be rest assured, that anything that Bernie is doing, is being done for a very good reason.

A week between Bahrain and Australia? Ouch.

It continues to baffle me how they **** the fixtures up every year. If they actually wanted to save the planet and some money they would do all the races in a more logical manner. Sadly thats just not how it works.

I've never understood why they couldn't do a geological order.. Makes no sense zig zagging across the globe for no apparent reason.

How does 21 races help when they used to run 16 very recently.

You can have too much of a good thing.

Completely agree.

However i think Monaco should be one of the tracks dropped if this ever did happen...i just dont think it has a place in modern F1 anymore.

For all you negative Nancy's about Monaco, check this stat out:

The Monaco Grand Prix attained a higher audience share than any other programme on television last week. A massive 40.55 %..

The Monaco GP is probably one of the first GPs which goes on the racing calender...such is its importance. I can't think of any other GP which commands as much attention.

Will Barhain be canned again, I hope it is. How can we go there with such protests and what appears to be out of hand brutality.

Video shot in Sanabis village near Manama, Bahrain on September 23, 2011 shows police leaving a home after chasing protesters inside and setting fire to it by throwing sound grenades near an opened cooking gas container according to eyewitnesses in the home. The protesters tried to escape through a garage when police officers outside tried to trap them in. Once the protesters managed to get out of the garage police fired rubber bullets at them from a close range and beat one of the youth on the street. At least seven of the protesters are being treated for third degree burns caused by the fire.
Later, when people from Sanabis were fighting to put out the flames, riot police again attacked them.

I agree it's no good for modern F1, I had a right go this year about it in fact.

But It's never going, I don't know what I think about the place. I'd love to be there and watch the race as I think that would be amazing but on Tv it's sub par.

Anyway It's never going anywhere :p

21 races is pushing it surely? Where is CS|Nuts for a team members view on this?

I'd of gone to Monza but I'm already off to Rome early Oct so think that is out :/
