F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Opening the rules is all a paper tiger anyway.

They only have 4 engines per car. A couple of those will be used during the first fly away races, so at most they will get 1, maybe 2 upgraded engines.

At the end of the day it's an exercise in spending money for little gain, spurred by Ferrari being pathetic.

Oh, and total and utter FIA fail. Again.

The regulation is retarded yea, but how do Ferrari think they will catch up if Mercedes can upgrade too?

They will all spend money and the pecking order will remain the same...

Plus, it's not opening development. They are still restricted by the same tokens as before, the deadline is just moved. So the upgrades they were going to implement by the end of Feb they can now introduce later in the year. So actually, if one of the manufacturers gets their 32 tokens worth ready by the season start, they will have an advantage over those teams bringing their upgrades later.

All in all it seems rather pointless.

They've got a damned sight more of a chance to catch up with the time that this affords them than if they had to rush to meet a deadline.

Besides, catching up with the Merc engine rather depends on how much development headroom there is on these engines. The Merc unit might already be the best it'll ever be, the Renault unit might suddenly come alive with a bit of work, the Ferrari....well, the Ferrari could come over all Italian and explode every race weekend. Won't know until the season gets underway :)
