I've spent the last couple of weeks trying to get a satellite dish pointed at a German station so my wife can learn German faster. It's been a nightmare as I was trying to do it on the cheap and everything is rubbish.

As an aside this was going to give me live F1 all year around.

I received an email today, Skys' new F1 channel will be free to Sky Sports 1 and 2 or Sky HD subscribers. I don't subscribe to Sky sports as I can't stand football but I do already have Sky HD. Not only that Sky have reduced their HD subscription to one fee instead of one fee per box, so I save £10 a month and get F1 for free.

Andi.

Loving this news. Now I just need to convince sky to keep my price plan at the 50% discount level from the staff discount code gained from a friendly soul on these forums. If they wont then I will prob ditch Sky altogether and lose out on this :(

Yeah, I guess it would limit you to a single feed. Just wondering if it throws a wobbly with things like Red Button or Interactive, or anything else?

Also, any way to test a feed, short of just finding a satalite box from somewhere and plugging it in? I need to check this socket in my wall is a) connected to the dish on the front of the building, and b) the dish is pointing at the right satalite.

Yeah I got this email too.

Also had 9 months free HD which ended recently and now have a letter giving me hd for £2.50 a month. I dont have sports or movies though but do have multiroom.

I need to know info for virgin..
Saw a sky f1 advert last night..

Ahhhhhh when are they going to say something about virgin.

So if you went for Sky HD+ as a new customer you would be looking at £30 a month basically? £20 for the standard channels pack plus £10 for HD so you get the F1 channel.

Yes.

But I will add the £5 Entertainment Extra pack and get Eurosport and Discovery, etc too.

I was always going to get that package anyway, I just didn't fancy having to buy Sky Sports too. Thankfully, I don't need to :)

Yep amazing news regarding Sky F1 being free to HD subscribers.

Very happy about this.

Indeed, I planned to come into this part of the forums tonight to see if others had commented on this. It felt to good to be true at first!

Anyone run a Sky+HD box on a single feed (i.e. in a flat)?

Yep, I have SKY+HD in my apartment with a single feed.

It can certainly be done (there's a menu option for it on my box) and I assume it just limits how many recordings you can make.

You're correct that there is a menu however the restrictions are as follows:

1. You cannot record a different channel, only the channel you watch.

2. You cannot use SKY Anytime as it uses the second feed for this.

Sometimes you can get a few programs on Anytime if you don't go into the SKY menu and disable it (the second feed) but the side effects are not worth it ie. they SKY box will stop working and if you accidently record another program.. again it crashes, a real pain to get working again.

There are ways to get both feeds working even in an apartment with a single feed through a splitter or other device (many people now have their landlord get this installed (costs about £130)).

Mine is a fairly new building with the Sky cabling all built into the walls.

But it sounds like I can change a few settings and get everything working on a single feed fine. I will still have my dual tuner freeview pc and the freeview tuner in the tv if I want to record and watch different things.

Having a single feed doesn't stop you recording while watching a previous recording does it?

As a Non Sky customer does this mean I can watch F1 on Sky for £30 a month?

£20 for the entertainment pack and an extra £10 for HD channels?

Cheers,
