F1 Testing 2018: Week 1 Barcelona (26th - 1st)

Kubica's POV including halo from film day.

Ugh. Just awful.

Look, FIA/F1, make up your minds: either (1) it's an open cockpit formula and accept there's an inherent risk that goes with that, or (2) decide open cockpit is too dangerous and stick a proper cockpit on the cars. This kind of stupid middle ground is never going to make sense.

A really good day at Barcelona today, but definitely one of the coldest, rivalling Jerez a few years ago. The air temperature today rarely went above 10 deg C so I don't think that too much can be gained from the results of today. That said, there where some observations, the most notable of which was that Mercedes couldn't quickly switch on their tyres. Ferrari (and others) got the hard tyres working within two laps, and Merc were still not up and running after five. The conditions were extreme though, so that may be an advantage at some tracks. It was visibly noticeable - Hamilton in particular in the afternoon when the conditions were colder, and he also slid off later when switching to the mediums.

I'm not holding out too much hope for tomorrow - forecast is good but the temperatures are so low. Anyway, a few photos from today:

Btw, a special mention for halo. It is horrible, an absolute eyesore. It completely anonymises the drivers and just makes the cars look terrible. F1 needs to wake up - any connection with the actual driver is completely lost with halo when you're watching live.

Great pics, Abyss. That Renault is lovely.

edit: Looking at your photos, does the W09 still have a T wing? Weren't they banned or have I imagined that?

I tend to imagine stuff often. I'm sure tyre warmers were banned a few seasons ago but still in use.
