Ok. So just put a new Sata drive in 500GB as a slave(data) also have an IDE samsung but on boot up it keeps saying IDE Master H.D.D F1 to resume. Have looked in BIOS and the sata is in slave. Only installed today will maybe change the sata to master.

(No idea why it's such a wide post ^^)

There is no concept of master and slave in the SATA context. All the master/slave settings do is determine how two IDE devices interact on the same cable.

Is the system now reporting an error at startup which requires user intervention?

The only type of error I get is the one I said about where it asks to press F1 to resume.

Once this is done it just carries on and boot's up.

He has a very good reason to believe that's what it says as he is sitting next to me :D

Just to confirm yes that is what it said ;p

Simplest thing will be to disable the error reporting/confirmation in the BIOS.

What board is this all connected to?

change your ide hard disc to master instead of slave
thats what the message is telling you, its nothing to do with sata postions

i had this before with an asus motherboard

All sorted now. Thank you for the help using the sata as master and IDE as slave all well and good no longer get the error.
