Hi all, been out of the gaming world for a while, years even. Played a good few MMO's back in the day, looking for something thats current with a pile of players thats f2p and will run on my mac... So need something casual due to family commitments... ideas?

Just done 2 months on Wow which was good but don't want to be paying for something that I'm not getting game-time to make worth while.

Just booted up SWGemu which should be good for a short time (loved it back in the day) but cant run on my mac just my old laptop :(

so along these lines

Guild Wars 2.

I think it's still going strong.

Loved the original Guild Wars, but GW2, not so much.

It's still a very solid MMO, gorgeous, but doesn't do it for me, in terms of game mechanics.

Black Desert Online is £4.25 atm - It's a superb MMo, If you like combat with fluidity this is your game. It has a lot of hidden depth, be that fishing crafting or PvP.

For less than a fiver you cannot go wrong! buy it !! finishes on the 4th Jan..

Been looking at this. Does the Alpha / Omega thing cause some imbalances though? Doesn't seem very fair.

It's perfectly fair. The Alpha clone just limits you to flying your racial ships (up to Cruisers), what skills you can train and to what level certain skills can be trained to. That said, you can quite easily raise enough ISK (the in-game currency) as an alpha to buy a PLEX from the market and open up the full game. Just depends if you're willing to put the time in.

Elder Scrolls Online? You need to buy the game but you can get it as cheaply as £7 on key sites. To get access to some of the DLC you either buy that separately or sub for a while.
The only downside of f2p is limited bag space if you're into crafting as the ingredients will take up a lot of space.

ArcheAge has just recently had its 3.0 patch drop and now has a fresh start server. It's an absolutely outstanding IMO that is admittedly let down by its cash shop but it's well worth a go.

Another + for ESO. Tried most MMO's but stuck with this one.

GW2 is probably the best F2P MMO out currently, all the others I've tried over the years just don't keep me hooked asmuch as GW2 has managed.

What's the most complete version of TESO that you can buy? I might give it a go. Played it during the beta, but I was wasn't taken by the differences in freedom of exploration in comparison to Skyrim. Seems like that might have changed now.

Its probably been 7 years since I last touched EVE - I had a couple of 45m+ skillpoint characters many moons ago, god knows where they are now. Is skilling up still the incredibly slow process it was?

There is Morrowind expansion in June - with a new class. There is a gold version with all four expansions dark brotherhood, thieves guild, orsinium and imperial city but the main game is massive and it would be months before you ever got to these during natural play unless you specifically wanted to go there. they are also unlocked for free if you sub (but become locked again if you stop)

freedom of exploration was change in oct/nov last year to be the same as skyrim etc - so yes you can go anywhere now :)

For the extra few £ it's worth getting the Gold version of ESO as the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild stuff add to the 'Elder Scrolls experience' and the Orsinium zone Wrothgar and it's quests are some of the best in the game.

yes, completely agree - but you also run the risk of accidentely endin up in one of the DLC dungeons in group finder at level 10 and be immediately kicked out by the other members...

oh and there is a double exp event on currently, not that exp is actually as important as it was prior to the change in Oct/Nov :D
