f3 humming

This actually makes me feel sick, and keeps the young kids awake next door
is there a cure or do i send it back.

may go for a 2tb drive whats a good cheap one.

I have just took my F3 out of my system because of the humming have a thread in the forum about the noise

Possibly the worst HDD ive ever owned for this.

Its not your drive playing up its just the way Samsungs HDD F1-F3 series are.

If you want a quiet drive try the western digital caviar range or the Samsung EcoGreen F2

F1 & F3 owner here.

The only way I got around this was mounting them with rubber bands, ghetto in the extreme.

It's to do with the motors they use.

Based on a limited sample, I've found sammys noisier than WDs.
What tune is it humming, anyway?

Just fitted a new F3 500GB, no noise at all.....

Do they start off that way or does it start to happen after a period of use?

I bought an F1 awhile ago and when installed in my old case (screwed straight into steel) it hummed, however since changing cases (Lian Li rubber washer fitment) it can't be heard. Maybe some drives hum and some don't, or maybe they all do and it's just that some cases amplify the noise and some conceal it.
