Hi guys, I'm trying to decide what drive setup would be better.

not sure to go for 2 x Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II (HD502HJ) in a striping raid or Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB. what kind of speeds will I be looking at with these two setups? Also I have never done a raid before?

As i have said in other threads before, sata 6 mechanical HDDs are pointless, like using a mini's engine to power a lambo. A mechanical HDD does not even saturate a sata II connector.

I would almost guarantee that the raid setup would be faster. Personally I wouldnt be bothered to set one up, just get the Samsung F3 1TB.

I have two F3 1TB's in raid0. Not overly impressed tbh - was expecting maybe too much from them. Not as fast loading games etc as I was hoping for but hey ho. Seem to remember my old 80gb raid set up being quicker at loading games.

Go for the F3. SATA III 6Gbps not worth it because theres no hardrive in the current market that can hit speeds anywhere near that. They don't even hit the max speed of 3Gbps of SATA II let alone SATA III.

The F3 in a RAID 0 Array has been proven to perform really well.
