Fabia - 1.4 TDi (105ps) v 1.2 TSI (110ps)

I had a fabia 1.2 tsi 110 for a couple of weeks as a loaner, whilst my Octavia was getting some work done at the dealer. It was actually a pleasant car to drive and a great engine for a small, light hatchback. It was smooth, happy to rev, felt torquey and returned low 50s mpg wise on the motorway at 70mph. I did wonder why anyone bothered with the diesel model.

That's pretty good mpg!

Small Diesels (less than 2.0) are very fussy on gear selection and work much better with an Auto/DSG box in my experience. The petrols are much more forgiving, smoother and much more pleasant to live with.

I compared a GTD golf Manual with a 1.4TSI DSG and would buy the 1.4 every day. Nicer to live with and better economy with tons of punch when you needed it.

I have the 105ps TSI in my Ibiza FR, would recommend the engine all day. An accomplished cruiser for the displacement, good fun in the twisties as well, but not much of a speed machine at the high end.
