A friend has had her Facebook account hijacked this morning. Her email and loggin password have been change and by the looks of it, all of her alternatives have been removed as well (mobile and alternate email notifications). Facebook's online methods of getting back in just don't work. Has anyone else had this happen and if you did, how did you get control of your facebook again ? Been driving me round the bend for last couple of hours trying to help her out, but i don't use it myself, so am not familiar with it.

The account should be resettable through using her email address, they'll send a password reset link, is that not available?

No, because the hacker has replaced her email addy with there own and then deleted all of her email and alternate email addy's.

I'm guessing the only way would be to contact Facebook directly and explain the situation. They should have a record of the registered email address before the account was hacked/email changed and hopefully they'll allow her to use that to reset it (or maybe even her mobile number before it was removed).

The problem might be getting them to believe you/her but hopefully she'll be able to verify it somehow.

I'm slowly coming to the same conclusion. Have managed to upload her driving license to them to prove her identity, so waiting to see what they say. But it looks like the only way to deal with this is going to be a phone call. It does seem stupid that all you have to do is use one of hundreds of facebook password crackers to have full control over some one's account, but on the other hand, facebook make it as difficult as possible to regain control of your account. Bloody glad i'm not part of that god forsaken hole lol :D

And this is why you have Random number generator linked to your mobile for all new log ins from unrecognised devices

So if he's changed the email that means he has access to her email account because it asks for confirmation

The horror.

It is just a phone call! Probably hasn't changed password for years and shares it across other online accounts too.

As above, if it started in one place it was likely her email account. And, like some less tech savvy people, she's likely using the same password (or a variation) on every site. Start with her email account and go from there.

This is all sorted now she has regained control of her Facebook account. For those that might be interested, don't waste your time trying to phone them, there is NO phone support from Facebook at all.

I recently got accused of trying to hack someones Facebook account ()

I was told the person had received an email saying their account had been attempted to be logged in to using [A mobile Device] from [a small village in Linconshire]

Now, the person telling me knew I had said mobile device and the IP address it came from was her house and I had been there at the time a few days earlier.

I was a bit mad to be accused tbh and got a bit shirty saying the whole story was a load of ******* because at the very least they would not be able to pinpoint a village from an IP address, at least not without a court order. Is that right?

I even tried to prove the point by using an online IP checker which just came up as 'Sheffield UK' - stupid woman wasn't interested in listening then.
