Facebook Account Hijack

It does seem stupid that all you have to do is use one of hundreds of facebook password crackers to have full control over some one's account
Facebook password crackers? What's all that about?

/edit - Obviously don't go into specifics but I'm intrigued, does such a thing exist?

I don't think such things exist. What is more likely is to click on a dodgy link/video from fb which takes you outside of fb and then you give enough permissions away that they take over your fb account.

This is all sorted now she has regained control of her Facebook account. For those that might be interested, don't waste your time trying to phone them, there is NO phone support from Facebook at all.

it might be more helpful if you explained how she gained control else your thread is just a worthless rant - did the methods on the facebook website actually work in the end or did you find some other way of getting in contact with them?

The methods offered by Facebook simply don't work when a hacker has got full control of a persons account. This was obvious to me after jumping through all the hoops that Facebook put in the way of an account holder and ending up at the start again. The last hope, so i thought, was to phone them. Facebook don't offer any sort of phone support for account holders, despite what the website says.

I wouldn't advise anyone to do what i ended up doing, so let's just leave it there.

That is probably the only thing you could have said to pique my interest!
What did you do?

I'm surprised they got away with that.

I've have been "Facebook notified" that someone
logged in to my account from *Rhoose on a Windows machine but was blocked pending verification from me.

So if they did log in then, as said, they must've also got her email password and intercepted it.

Ok. They did gain control of her e-mail, that was before they hacked her Facebook account. Re-gaining control of her e-mail was easy and was done with the support of her e-mail provider. Facebook itself took brute force. If anyone needs to know how to do it, just Google it...............................i can't put it on here, it breaks forum rules.

Is there any gain from h̶a̶c̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ (social engineering) their way into a Facebook account? I thought that FB made its profits from advertising?

deviantART on the other hand does have paid content and can potentially store your card details. I have known of dA accounts to be social engineered into. (sorry hate the word hacking in this context because it isn't hacking!)

Loads of people have a payment method linked to FB for micro games.

Secondly, once you are pretending to be them I suppose you could try and scam their friends? The old "im stranded, can you put £300 into my bank account" FB message?
