Facebook adverts tracking across different accounts in the same household?

I said that, not him.

I never referenced trust.

It's not that simple though, is it?
Basically, don't say the chap isn't a CT nutter when the video splash page says "Skynet is live" and he references being "deplatformed" a few seconds in. It doesn't reflect well on you and your ability to decipher credible sources.

Translation:

"I didn't watch the whole thing and merely jumped to conclusions therefore you aren't able to decipher credible sources":cry::cry:

I don't spend 20 mins of my life watching nonsense unless it is has humour. I think I cope'd about 5 mins to give you benefit of the doubt and he was already wrong too many times for me to continue.

I did try though!

The only people I know that comment on this sorta issue .... tend to be using an Android device...

I’m on iOS, as is our whole house, and today I got an ad for a Kenzzi hair remover (gf’s old one broke) I can only assumed she’s been looking at new ones

It is scary to think the data they have on you, and yes they have gigabytes of it, all feeding into an ai to keep you hooked and looking at things.

Very valuable input as always, well done champ ;)

Had another weird situation the other day.

I was having breakfast in a cafe with my girlfriend, and we talked about a few things, including B&O and also Bootcamp (the fitness sessions).

We then walked to the station, and when she got on the train and opened Facebook on her phone, there were two adverts - one for B&O and one for Bootcamp.

Now, I totally understand that it some cases, it could be that seeing the adverts got us thinking about those topics, but:

1. I brought up the topics
2. I run adblock on all of my devices
3. I don't have Facebook on my phone

Just feels REALLY creepy. Wonder how you could reliably test for it.

I have never bought these stories at all. Thinking it is just a coincidence. But yesterday I had my boiler man come and quote and we discussed (for the first time ever) how I may need to fit a new, larger loft hatch.

I scrolled down on Instagram the other day and there was literal advertisements for LOFT HATCHES. I mean that is such a random edge case I can't possibly see how it could have happened.

So now I believe you :D Likewise - ad block, special DNS, super careful with browsing... very creepy.

I worked in the data privacy industry, so I'm well aware of the methods companies use to target ads, but sometimes, I just cannot think of a way they'd have achieved it without having mic access.

E.g. the discussion about bootcamp came up after discussing how my company are removing gym pass (a multi-gym sub) from their benefits package, and so I was considering about joining bootcamp instead.

Now, if we had received an advert for it a day or so later, it would be weird, but it could be because I've searched it in the past.

Same with B&O - I was discussing how the B&O system in my car was so pants, but their actual speakers are quite nice, ignoring the cost. I then referenced the A9 speaker, which I liked in particular aesthetically. Had we received that ad a few days later, could be because I've searched for B&O in the past.

HOWEVER, to receive BOTH of those adverts in fewer than 30 minutes after discussing them just seems too coincidental, IMO.

100%. And I can assure you I have never once discussed loft hatches in my life, until yesterday with the boiler man whinging that the tank may not fit through it.

Edit: @Lysander can you recommend any good tinfoil?

Some of the clever networks will know your unique ID from another session, see what socials you're connected to and see who you are connected to and target them too if their session is coming from the same IP. It's all AI powered now too so the more data that gets crunched, the AI just gets smarter with each algo.

People don't know how to disable location tracking on their iphone/android, so a visiting builder's proclivities could be geographically correlated with your IP/ physical address.
(imagine the data Chinese govt have on their population)

True, but of all the things you could receive an advert on relating to a builder, he receives it about a loft hatch?

Well I don't really see the problem with targetted ads based on a set of triggers you personally create.

So many people complain saying that they don't want ad's based on their conversations etc, and that its runs much deeper than that.

When I ask what is the risk/problem with a database of things you have spoke about and then you getting ad's delivered about that.... what more sinister things are going to cause you any damage? Nothing?

Things have certainly changed - Some video that even if some of it is BS as said above.

Years ago I filled up at a petrol station -The cost was well less than £30 the cheque guarantee card was used for .
The teller then asked me to put my car reg on back of cheque - I said fine but it will cost you one pound do you agree - I can't she said so didn't put it on.
Fortunately I had moved my car before I went in and went out and put a rag over rear number plate.
This was the start and look at it now.
Another case was they asked me to put my address on back of cheque (all this is less than £30 the card guaranteed) so put bank address on.- Next time I was in the shop I heard the teller say to a woman people were doing this.

Now at my age I don't give a hoot - What's happening today was staring people in the face but ignored it.

Another reason not to be on Facebook.

But I've always wondered, people must be buying the stuff that gets advertised?

I don't pretend to know how it works, but somehow the retailer of the products advertised must get some kind of data or feedback? Otherwise how would they know what return spending X amount on advertising is returning in sales?

So, my point is, people must be buying this stuff being advertised otherwise there simply would not be any point.

Thread mentions creepy AI bots, and as if by magic...
