you can do the same thing for emails aswell :D but you have to enable request read receipt
A sneaky (and very old) way of doing this without permission is to include a link to a small unique image in the email, and if you control the server the image is on you can check when the email is viewed by checking when that image was requested from the server.

A lot of email providers disable linked images by default nowadays though.

Not really the same though because the user has control over whether they send an email read receipt or not. From the sounds of it, Facebook automatically does it unless you use a third-party plugin or whatever.

Guys would any of you know how this could be done in Opera?

The extension works perfectly in Chrome but of course theres nothing like it for Opera. Is there some tweaking I could do to a config file somewhere. Im asking because Opera is my primary browser...
