I've never seen a forum referred to as social media before Each to their own I guess.

It's just part of your online presence.

SM is part of web 2.0, whereas forums have been around way longer but have incorporated some features of SM as time has gone on.

The way I'd differentiate? There's no algorithm here to feed stuff into your eyeballs to try and keep you on for longer.

There are threads that turn into echo chambers, but that's about it.

Go on FEEDS and you only see your friends and Groups you joined.

Pick a sub forum on here or news story and there will be one on Facebook. There really is no difference. However the advantage of Facebook is OCUK doesn't have dedicated Groups of stuff I'm interested in, the closest forums for that is Redditt.

There is a big difference. Algorithms. Forums are early social media, nowhere near as damaging to society as Facebook, twitter etc.

To those saying FB is dying, they (Meta) posted record profits this year, I don't think they're dying, far from it. Afaik they have more active users now than ever before. I rarely use it, I've nothing I want to show off on there and I don't have many friends , but can see its use for keeping in touch with people and for groups representing common interests etc. FB marketplace has some bargains but lots of trash and scams. All imo.

I deleted my Facebook account, ages ago, like 2009, to be honest I wasn't on there long anyway and quickly realised it wasn't for me.

However......

Like 6-7 years after that something popped up, and it became apparentu Facebook account wasn't properly deleted.

It took a while to properly delete it, cheeky buggers.

I'm hind sight I should have just posted some obscene racism or something I bet that would have got it deleted fast, although I guess you can get arrested for that these days as our work from home police force don't seem to do anything else.

Heh, when I deleted my account there it kept steering me to "deactivate" which is not the same thing at all.

Finding how to delete it took some doing!
