I have someone in my friends list whom I added a few months ago. They were a "friend of a friend" and I wasn't too fussed about adding them but at the time I thought "why not?".

Anyway, this individual is slightly nuts. :p Posting some embarrassing stuff on a regular basis. Also has a tendency to get drunk and hop on FB at ridiculous times of the morning to ramble on. I don't want to remove the person from my friends list but other folk in my list have noticed the posts of this person on my wall and commented asking who on earth the person is. I'd like to be more subtle, is there a way I can have the person remain on my friends list but have it so that anything they post can't be seen by anyone else in my friends list?.

Ta. :)

Are they posting on your wall or just making a status update?

There is an option to remove a friends status updates, hover over the update and click the x in the top right hand corner to hide all updates from this friend.

If it's to your wall then you can individually delete items or just block them if they are that annoying!

When you see their post in your news feed, go to the top right of their post and an 'X' will appear. Click this and you have the option to hide them.

this

Do this for quite a few of my loner "friends" who do nothing but post crap all day sat on facebook all the time.

Whilst we are talking Facebook, I have just noticed the new update to Recent Activity showing a preview of your comments to others. More controversy looms I expect! :D

Only if their privacy settings dictate that wall posts, comments on posts etc are public..

Yeah, it's shocking how information that everyone can see anyway is now slightly more visible... it's almost as though anything you want private should be kept to a private message, or something .

It's very more visible. It's News Feed all over again. It doesn't bother me, just think it will be interesting to see the reaction.

It's only a friend of a friend, they post crap on your wall that you find embarrassing, but you don't want to remove them or ask them to pipe down. One can only conclude that this is a member of the opposite sex that is tap-able, but one you wouldn't tell your friends about if you did.

Am I right?

;)

LOL!!!. Not quite right, sorry!!. :D

Now you can see a sample, whereas before you had to click on it to see what had been said? That's hardly massively more ~visible~, and you still only see it if you're mutual friends with the third party (or if said third party has their stuff visible to friends of friends).

It's really, really easy to lock down privacy settings in Facebook, if you so wish.

I think it is massively more visible. Most people wouldn't sit and click through checking peoples comments. Now they just need a quick glance. I think it's good to be honest, especially for Pages.

I'm not sure you can restrict that alone with privacy. Like you say if the recipient is a friend or public then it will show. It's down to the recipients privacy settings rather than yours. Unless there is a way to switch off your Recent Activity updates but I can't see it.
