Facebook users be careful!

So what's the worst that can happen with this? I mean you can lose your FB account, which isn't the end of the world, and they can get your FB password which is fine as long as you don't use the same password for everything.

I'm not knocking it, and it's a worry if people can get your details through apps, but how bad could it be?

They could send bad messages etc to all your contacts, if you have apps that link to external sites or manage things via permissions then they could do stuff with those too.

I suppose it's all down to what kind of apps you have already installed.

Even though they said they used a backdoor in facebook apps?

As I said, phishing is only possible if you log into a site via an alternative URL which I don't - I always use the bookmark which is http://www.facebook.com/

People lie, particularly these people. I'd honestly say it's 99% likely it was not facebook, and you've done something else which has given it away.

And I don't think I have, even if there is a small chance, I would go against that possibility as it's just not my way of doing things when browsing the web.

Firefox also has built in malware/phishing protection - a red bar pops up if a site is detected to be possibly phishing or contain malware.

It doesn't "detect" it goes on reports. If someone has reported the site to be a phishing site it'll pop up. If it's brand new it probably won't.

So explain how someone gets Phished by using a legitimate link already bookmarked and an OS that is free from any trojans, viruses, rootkits etc?

Oh yeah I forgot that to be on facebook means you have a social life.........

Having never been on the site I'm surprised to hear about all these apps that you can have. Do facebook verify them in anyway?

Why would you NOT care about your facebook account being hacked if you use it regularly? I use it to keep in touch with almost all my old school friends... if it was hacked and tampered with and I ended up losing it then I would be very, very peed off. As would most normal people I imagine.

Aye it has nothing to do with the amount of socialising you do in real life or online but the fact that such sites allow you to keep n contact with people you used to know and still do but cannot physically socialise with because of time, distance, travel costs etc.

It's all well and good if you're super rich and don't need to work and can travel to every one of your old buddies but who here is?!

It would be pretty annoying to lose access to such a place just because of one tool who thinks it's fine to ransom it!

And it would take all of about 60 seconds to send an e-mail to Facebook to recover it? They'd respond in 48 hours or sooner...

Seriously. It is a non-issue.

...in your opinion. Not to mention they could get access to very personal information that is normally only available to a select few people. Plus wiping your profile, pic galleries, and message boxes. It's hardly a "non-issue" to anyone with a facebook account who uses it regularly.

Don't put personal/sensitive information on Facebook then? Does anyone?

I'm sure Facebook would be able to revert any damage done to your account, as well as reset your password.

PS: I use Facebook regularly.

Yup, lots. Phone numbers, addresses etc... I see it all the time with people who don't know better. It's silly, yes, but the danger from account hacking is still real. I've got a lot of stuff on my profile that's been added to over a long period of time, so i'd be gutted if it all went.
