Factory watercooled cards - EVGA Hydro Copper

No. But I'm lazy, and I don't want to do it again.

Like now I have to go and find my 290X coolers, screws, memory pads and put them back on, effort I can't be bothered with.

I bought the 980 so I can just plug it into my loop, and unplug and sell when done.

What is the thermal paste like on these factory fitted blocks?

Given that normal factory coolers tend to come with rubbish paste, I would have thought that a DIY job with the right thermal paste might be better (Bar the OcUK labs of course as I'd expect them to use reasonable good stuff)

Hm good question.
They asking some money for it so it should be good stuff.Best would be an option to tell them what you want to.
Gelid Extreme would get my recommendation.
I've got to cards in parallel, and temps are the same on the first card where I used coollaboratory liquid ultra compare to GE.

As far as I know, EVGA don't have a problem with the stock cooler being removed. Doesn't affect the warranty like some other card manufacturers. Like Gregster said, I think it's mainly done for looks, and less hassle.

Hi

Just to confirm the above.

EVGA warranty is not voided if stock cooler has been removed. If you were ever to need RMA though the original stock cooler would need replacing onto the card.

Enjoy the HydroCopper card though!!

Thanks
Ben

  • SWTOR, the main game I play has terrible performance, with or without Crossfire enabled. It seems this is an AMD issue.
So far so good. It plays very nicely on the 980. Did a raid last night and no FPS issues unlike the 290X's.
  • BF4 with DX plays fine, but struggles in busy scenes. With Mantle I get sub 10fps at random times.
Had a 20 minute go on BF4 last night on a 64 player map. FPS was sat around 60-70 and very smooth. No slow downs like I got in Mantle. It's early days yet, need to give it a spanking at some point.

I'm yet to try SoM or Titanfall, this will come with time.

I haven't overclocked it yet, it's boosting to 1443 (I think) and memory is 3.5GHz.

The highest I saw the temperature was 45 degrees I think. :o

Not regretting buying this card so far - and for now I'm glad I didn't buy two as the performance with a single card is very good.
