I have followed SiriusB's most excellent guide to install fahmon on my newly installed Ubuntu 8.10 and it now fails to install on the last line, up until the command 'make install' everything seems to go OK.

Any ideas chaps?

My guide is almost exactly 12 months out of date. Ubuntu Feisty Fawn still had its new car smell when I wrote that section. Been two new versions of 'buntu since then.. Herpatic Hippo and Infected Iquana or whatever.

Edit: THREE versions! I forgot about Geriatric Gibbon.

Be careful with UB-8.10 as there were a few problems with the kernal falling over, believe it was the 27 version.

Ah, all is revealed.:)

Following SiriusB's site:

http://smp.aeternum.co.uk/guide/7

Ijust needed to add 'sudo' to the 'make install' command for it all to work perfectly. Perhaps SiriusB could edit the relevant line?

So cheers to verbal for the idea and thanks for the concern chaps.:)

Sorry to trouble everyone and great work uncle_fungus.:)

Better check with the familial fungus - as far as I am aware everything in my guide was correct at the time. So it is up to uncle to tell me if I need to update the installation instructions :)

I too had to use "sudo make install" to get it working on Ubuntu 8.10.

I will post a copy of the install log tomorrow.

Oh... looks like something that was overlooked in my guide

Shame on you mr fungus - you should be checking to see if my guide is current or not :p

Which reminds me, I need to update which widgets library to get. I believe it is 2.8 now, and not 2.6.

Indeed, I worked that out for myself (it makes a change) when the Fahmon installer mentioned it.:)

I struggled to get FaH running in 8.10 with finstall too, it dumps the old unit at startup and downloads a new one. I eventually used the guide on the Ubuntu site. Not sure if the problem is an incompatability with FaH and 8.10 or finstall with 8.10.

Well I am running Ubuntu 8.10 in VMWare and everything runs just fine. The only niggle I had with the folding client was me forgetting to set the VM to 2 processors. Quick restart and tweaking of settings and away I went.

Are you running Linux natively and do you have a multi-core CPU?

Yep, I have it running natively on a C2D system.:o

It is currently stable and shuts down, powers up fine. The install script was a little different from finstall but went OK.
