Failed Memtest :(

After finally getting my pc running after its been dead for 3 weeks or so, I have encountered another problem. Seems my PSU blowing not only wrecked my CPU but my ram too by the looks of things.

I found this out as I was overclocking my new CPU happily, got it to 4ghz stable. But when I tested the ram it had errors. So I used memtest and that had errors. So the next step was get it all back to standard clocks and the error is still there. Yay....

So is it a case of new ram then folks?

Cheers :(

Try one DIMM at a time and also try some different slots, just in case. (Obviously on stock settings). See what happens.

Well it appears just to be misbehaving! I just ran a full memtest on all of it at stock speeds and no errors! So i cranked up my oc (not as high this time) and no errors either. So obviously it just doesn't like the higher oc :( Bit annoying but oh well. Still at 3.6ghz so its not too bad! Thanks for your help mr firegod

That's OK. My rig was running fine as well months ago at a higher oc. Then just decided it didn't like it, so I had to start again and start a new oc. Slightly lower than the previous one. Glad to hear your RAM is not fubar'd though!

Sorry to bring this topic back up, still intrigued to know what program measure the temp of the northbridge?

Would increasing the voltages of my NB help my ram then? Maybe this is what caused it to error?

I think everest ultimate edition can read NB temps, btw wrayvon. What is your NB voltage currently set to in bios, as it may indeed need a boost. And what are the specs of your ram.

It is still on auto. Any idea what it should be about? Then I can set it manually and see if it works!

Ram is 800mhz with timings of 4-4-4-12. But its currently at 5-5-5-15 and I think 859? Not entirely sure. I will check if you like. Voltages are 1.96 I think for ram.

EDIT: Just checked and the settings are as follows:

Multi 8.5
FSB 410
PCIE 100
FSB Strap to NB Auto
Ram 821
Timings 5-5-5-15
CPU volts 1.225
RAM volts Auto (was previously 1.96 though before I put it back to 3.6)
NB volts Auto

Try raising the NB voltage 2 0r 3 notches up from auto, if your using 4 x 1gb dimm's the NB often needs a boost as 4 put a bit of extra strain on it, also set the ram voltage to the manufacturers reccomended, though on some bios revisions of the p5q, memory voltage tends to overvolt, eg my ocz reaper is rated 2.1v at 5-5-5-15 but i have it set at 2.02v
