Failed stress test!

fist thing you should do when you overclock a pc is to not even bother booting up the OS but go directly into a memory test. after that do a cpu test.

Which OCZ PC8500 do you have beano? I see the Reaper version is rated as high as 2.3v.

Now you're asking lol! All it says on the box is OCZ Performance DDR2 memory. It's SLI ready, and it has a black cover over the chips!?!

In CoreTemp? It shouldn't change.

Yup. Went up to 1.3250 under load, and was 1.1625 idle!?! Is it to do with the stepping?

I'm not planning an over clock yet lol! What do you use for testing memory?

1.25V should be more than enough for any C2D at stock speeds. What voltage is your RAM at?

I put it up to 2.2, but that didn't make any difference, so it's back on Auto at the moment.

It'll be this then. 2.2v should be enough.

1.1625v at idle would indicate that it's changing when SpeedStep kicks in, but I can't say I've ever seen the VID change in CoreTemp. The voltage reading will definitely change in CPU-Z, but not in CoreTemp.

Memtest86.

Keep it at 2.2v.

Set the vcore to 1.35v in BIOS and run Prime95 again. If that doesn't work, run Memtest.

there is a setting in the bios called "CPU VOLTAGE DAMPER" make sure that is set to enabled. This should reduce your vdroop. (might need latest bios version)

:D

Yup that's it, the cheap stuff... :D

Definitely changing in CoreTemp 0.95.

I can't remember what the problem was now, but i was reading bad things about memtest.. Can't for the life of me remember the problem!?! Might've been something to do with killing memory chips lol!

Okay, i'll try those voltages...

Thanks for all the help. ;)

2 of the best memory testing programs around are memtest86+ and goldmemory.

Okay, cheers. ;)

I'll check that, cheers ;)

Still no joy... :(

Memtest wouldn't run either, not compatible with 64bit according to Windows... Bugger!

Go to here and download the "Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)".

Unzip it and burn the resultant .iso file to CD using ImgBurn or Nero or summit, and then boot from the CD.

I'll tell you something... I'm glad you're here today! :D

Cheers ;)

That's helpful. There's a memtest .exe file that runs from windows.. It doesn't say which versions it supports... I tried it, it didn't work.

make sure your nforce driver is up to date aswell

I'll look at that tomorrow, cheers mate. ;)

I'll try this too, if the memtest doesn't show anything. Cheers. ;)

All i'm getting with memtest is '1004' scrolling down the left side of the screen, nothing like the screenshots on the web page!?! I'm just trying to find some info on their forum now, but i'll probably turn it off soon and go to bed lol!

Memtest is on that disk, as well as a heap of other useful apps that all run from a bootable CD. . . takes the O/S out of the equation!

Yeah, i've been trying to run memtest86+ from boot, but all i'm getting is a scrolling 1004!?! Tried burning it 3 times, with varification. The last time, on my LAST good quality disc lol!

That's me for tonight, i'll give that one a go tomorrow Big.Wayne. ;)

you got to run the dos version of memtest that self boots up. main test to run is test 5 in loop mode. test 8 is good to clap command rate issues.
