My mind must be elsewhere ...

I'm working off a scaled A3 drawing of 1:200

Am I correct when I say that it translates to 20cm on site, in real life?

1cm to 20cm is 1:20

If the scale drawing is 1:200, 20cm is the same as 200mm (easier unit to work with) so it would be 1mm on your plan when scaled, or 0.1cm.

1cm on your plan would be 2m (10mm to 2000mm) in real life.

Scale 1:200 simply means 1 unit on paper is 200 units in real life. Put whatever unit in you like.

So 1mm on paper = 200mm in real life.
1cm on paper = 200cm in RL.

were the plans originally meant to be printed at a3?
All our drawings are done at scales @ A1. Normally states this such as "1:20 @ A1" Or somewhere in the notes/drawing border it states that all scales are a1. There should also be a scale bar for each scale used on the drawing, so you can confirm everything.

Either way, they should also state "do not scale" on the drawings, since print outs are never accurate, the dimensions are what matter.

I'm dying to know what has gone wrong now!
