Failing Hard Drive Question

Basically I pulled the hdd out of my old pc (It's a 160gb wd)

And I'm trying to retrieve the data but it makes a really loud tick when trying to access the drive and then it disappears.

Is there any hope of getting the data back or is it ****ed?

I'd be interested too as I'm in a similar situation. Any of the software solutions that work within Windows are causing lockups.

tbh I think we may be looking at a boot CD or a linux 'live' CD option.

It did boot the first time but it crashed,

And now I can't even access the drive from ubuntu it just times out.


Is there anything else I could try apart from ubuntu?
