I have had an issue 3 times when starting up my computer, I press the power button , the fans/lights come on for about 5 seconds then it shuts down then like 2 seconds later it starts up again and boots fully.

Anyone know why this is? or if its a problem?

thanks

It's not the same, his systems boots into Windows fine just take a second boot to get there, I think it's a motherboard/chipset issue. I use to have it on a P35 chipset board, don't rule your psu though!

Also it might be worth checking your cpu and ram voltages, make sure they are set correctly.

Can you list the pc's components including psu?

Motherboard is a P67A-UD3-B3
the PSU is OCZ Stealth extreme 2 600w
RAM 4 GB corsair vengence 1600mhz
MSI gtx 460
Corsair H50 cooler

the pc is OC'd to 4.4ghz

If it is the psu thats failing , will it ruin any of my other components?

Should not ruin it (this is a first port of call when power surge happens) however the behaviour can be unpredictable, it would be nice if you could test with a spare PSU (without buying one first) just to see if the system boots as normal (no need for HDDs etc)

Also try getting rid of OC and see what happens.

well... I dont have a PSU, and I didnt OC it so I dont know how to take it off :D

the PC was a pre-built from overclockers, it should be still under warranty as I have only had it 3 months or so.

this thing has only happened 3 times in 3 months, dont know if its a big deal , would just like to know why its doing it :p

BUMP help

Just found this

"So just to let you guys know - I underclocked my RAM a bit (as my 3x1gb were slightly overclcocked to match the 3x2gb), and now there power-up problem has gone.

I presume it's the psu that is causing the problem, as i did a number of memtests and there were no errors coming up there. The psu probably just can't handle it, although it is an 800w (but it's fairly old now, and was quite cheap.) Guess i'm gonna have to buy a 1kw one in january.. "

thing is I dont have any overclock on my ram, so surely that cant be my problem?
