Failing to stop after an accident

So yesterday my girlfriends parents where hit in the rear by a car (quite hard).

They got out of the car to inspect the damage and so did the other driver. The other driver insisted that it was just minor damage and nothing to worry about and proceeded to get back into his car and drive off.

My gf’s mum stood in the way of the car so they could not drive leave however they just drove around her hitting her with the car in the process (she was not injured but very shaken up).

Her dad is in his 60’s and has just had major surgery on his neck and this may have caused more damage because of the instability in his neck an accident like this could actually cost him his life.

They got the number plate and will be going to the police station today. Will the police follow it up or just forget about it? If so what sort of punishment would the other driver get (it was a women)?

They are not the sort that would claim compensation so there is no point pushing that with them.

The police will take it pretty seriously I'd imagine, especially if her mum was hit by the car.

They'll be around to the registered keepers address pretty sharpish I'd hope

Can't just hit someone....say its only minor then drive off.

I suspect they had no insurance or didn't hold a driving license. The police will follow it up.

Possible punishment depends on the circumstances...I believe its 6 points and a fine for no insurance, with the leaving the scene of an accident been a quite serious offence too, no idea what that entails.

Why didn't they report it straight away? Seems quite bizarre to me that someone actually got hit by a car like you say and is only reporting it the day after, you also say the other driver got out of HIS car, but then the driver was a women (Woman) I think they really need to work on their story of what actually happened and be able to explain why it took so long to report the incident if what you are saying is accurate before they go to report it at any Police station if you want them to take it seriously.

police will no doubt think it's odd (as do I) that they didn't call there and then or within a short time frame. Very strange decision on their part.

If the car was nicked the police may not track him down.

The other driver got back into his car but then later on you said that it was a woman driver?? seems a bit strange to me...

Report it straight away to the Police, i would have rang the police at the road side & then i would imagine that they would send a unit to track down the other car's reg number there & then.

 this^^

If the guy had been drinking, how is he going to get caught now? If somebody uninsured had been driving how are they going to be caught? Why didn't they just hit 999 at the road side?

I'd imagine they'd take it pretty seriously. Just got to hope the cars registered to the culprit. Hope her dad & mum are alright, I imagine they're pretty shaken. Maybe why they didn't report it there and then?

Keep us updated.

Love stories where ****ers like this get what's coming to them :)

And this :).

What an utterly stupid cow. I hope she gets what's coming to her from the police.

Glad to hear your parents are relatively ok though. Sounds like it could've been a lot worse.

I was hit by an african dude a few years back and he just buggered off after saying it was my fault. Minor damage and everything but I reported it to the police, sat down with a PC and gave a statement like. Never heard from the police again, though my insurance company did contact me later saying he was not insured, so the police must have traced the number and given the details to my insurers. With him not being insured they said if I wanted to make a claim it would have to be through the courts. As it was a case of my word against his, with no witnesses on my side, and a car load of fellow african passengers on his side, I thought there was no point. I am willing to bet however he was never properly investigated or separately prosecuted by the police at any point, cos as I say I never heard from them again. In your case though as there was physical contact and you do have a witness you may get somewhere, but to be honest I wouldn't hold my breath.

Ah right, my bad.

I can't undertand why the old folks didn't call the law? I would have dialed 999 right away if that happened to me.

No Worries Janesy,

Maybe the old folk's did not want to cause any trouble? But seing what that woman did just disgusts me & i really hope the police do catch up with her!
