Failure rates of Hardware in 2013 - GPU's

I've had far more hard drives die then anything else, though two of my 7970's did die under stock conditions.

I've had a kit of ram and a psu die in the last week though :(

Ahhh yer, I also have had a kit of Corsair 1600 die and one OCZ PSU.

I've had to send back more than 30 Vertex 2 SSDS (They weren't all mine obviously :D)

Thankfully OCZs RMA service is pretty good. Or was...probably half the reason they've gone under :D

Going further back, used to have to send back tons of Hitachi Deskstars. Or as we liked to call them Death Stars :)

Ive had the misfortune of having 3 hdd's die simultaneously. 2 Samsung f1's and a western digital. My current f3 gave out a few smart warnings about a month ago but has been fine since. Had a few dead mobo's but the last one was from a mess up by evga. Sent a working nf 680 sli board away for step-up to 780i, they refused this but instead of getting my working board back they sent out a dead one, different serial numbers so i knew it wasn't mine.

Urgh, deskstars and diamondmax 9's, the stuff of nightmares.

Didn't even know OCZ went under. Learn something everyday.

My faultless OCZ Vertex SSD's are doing my proud. Allow me to shed a manly tear for OCZ.

Ocz made some great ram kits, (big fan of the reaper kits here). However their record with ssd's is less than stellar.

Toshiba have acquired their SSD lineup, no news yet on what is happening with the company or the rest of their business (power supplies etc.)
they filed for bankruptcy end of Nov and Toshiba was announced 3rd Dec, and on the 12th they (OCZ) launched a new product

First, we wanted to start off this article by thanking the guys at Puget Systems for taking the time to compile these numbers and compiling their most reliable hardware of 2013.

So,the data is for one boutique vendor in the US.

Hence,it is important to know what companies they were using,ie,they could have been using XFX for AMD and EVGA for Nvidia.

That was it. Knew somebody was digging them out.

And your point is?

And your point is?

Look at my post again(I added some info). We need to know what OEMs are being used.

Even I had heard of them and they are a big US company.

http://www.pugetsystems.com/reviews.php

I think they sell enough systems to get a good overall % of fairness :)

Number of shipped systems?? Number of cards shipped??

How are their volumes compared to Newegg or Dell as a percentage of total AMD card sales in the US per model? 1%? 10%?

What OEMs are they using?? What models of cards are they using??

They point out specific brands used which had a 0% failure rate. So I'm sure they use a scope of a few. Including AMD cards

ASUS 7850 with 0%.

I can see your point as people like ASUS tend not to skimp on components. Gigabyte for example use cheap VRMS which is why we saw a large number of failures at one point.

Not just their GPUs either.

I liked what Be Hardware did(French site) when they listed it per OEM IIRC for various components.

We know certain AMD OEMs did far worse as a whole,so perhaps Puget should give a more detailed breakdown of the companies and card models which were the worse!

That way we could know who to avoid in the future, and hopefully the negative publicity will mean the OEMs will need to act.

We need more info!! Maybe we should e-mail Puget to get them to release more detailed numbers,at least regarding what OEMs and models were the worst offenders.

I think being a retailer it best not to name and shame lol.

"Most returns are from XFX, utter ****.

Meanwhile their allocation for the next quarter gets dumped lol.
