Failure to format SSD

Ive got a 240gb Crucial SSD, and in the disk management, I allocate the letter for it and click format(Because it can be used and display on my computer) but whenever I do, it crashes my pc and gives me the blue screen.

Could there be a fault with the SSD or what?

Sounds like it's not being done right

Have you first shrank the volume and in allocated it first ?
