Fair 6300 Overclock?

My first major overclock ive ever done and ive got to 2.81Ghz 100% stable 49oC Idle and 53oC Full...is this a fair overclock for my currect spec or is it bad?

It's pretty normal for that combination, but certainly nothing to be unhappy about. Most E6300/DS3/GeIL PC6400 systems will do 3.0GHz and many will do 3.2GHz. The best ones are doing 3.6GHz (but that usually requires water cooling).
 
It seem the people who are getting higher overclock speeds have 2GB ram would that be right to say? so if I wanted to get to say 3.2Ghz I would probably need to purchase another gig? Jihad would you say the config on my CPU-Z looks about right? ive read a tutorial on overclocking and it says that I should be setting the ram to 5-5-5-15 but what exactally does it do? as you can see im on 4-4-4-12 atm...

Generally people up their timings to, say, 4-4-5-12 or even 5-5-5-12 when they've overclocking their RAM. You're running your ram at 400Mhz which is what the RAM is rated at, so there's no need for you to change the timings :)

Those numbers represent how long the RAM takes a "breather" in between carrying out the main functions of the RAM. The faster you set your RAM, the quicker the RAM will complete each function... but your RAM will need more of a breather in between the functions - so if you're overclocking your RAM, you increase the timings. That's my understanding of it anyway, if I'm wrong please correct me :D It's half guess work as I haven't been able to find a great explanation of it myself.

You could probably push your RAM/FSB up to 430Mhz without increasing the timings... Then you'd have 3Ghz :cool: The amount of RAM that you have shouldn't affect your overclock, only the quality of the RAM will affect that - and your RAM is good so no worries there :D

I'm running 3Ghz stable on my 6300. So 2.8Ghz is fine but there is probably a little bit more to squeeze out of it. But obviously there's more risk in doing so.

Watch those temps and you'll be fine.
 
I tried upping the FSB to 430 which is 3Ghz but PC was unstable...not partically hot but when running 3dmark 06 and Prime95 it crashed...which is why ive had to knock it down

The system will set them for stability - it will help you explore the limits of the CPU, you can always tighten the RAM timings once you know the CPU is stable.

I dunno what you have/haven't done voltage-wise so far, but you could try upping the vCore ever-so-slightly.

Before that you could try upping your vDIMM/RAM voltage to 2.1/2.2v, or just 0.1v over what you've got it running at now (so long as you haven't already put more voltage on it). Same with MCH and FSB if that doesn't work and you haven't already..?

Be careful with voltages though. I haven't got my system yet so I'm not speaking from first hand experience.
 
jongeeone what are you settings in ** BIOS for ** MCH, FSB and SB Voltage on the tutorial I have i didnt understand it so i left it on auto...could be another reason its unstable...
 
Hi, Got the same mobo, CPU and RAM as you and have gone to 2.8Ghz with stock volts.

Idle temps ~ 37 - 42 *C
Load temps ~47 - 52*C

For your ram the specified voltage (On the silver sticker) is 2.1v or 0.3+
 
Yes, haven't tried divider.

And since BIOS only allows 2.45 Vdimm, I don't think I can run the ram much faster to use divider anyway. (bear in mind multi 7 is my only option, no buts or ifs lol)

P.S: Had a peek at the WR for 6300 at XS database and there was only 1 at 3.893Ghz

I guess 6300s are too cheap to be put under phase cooling then. :)
