Fair to get a cat?

It will need to stay inside for a few months, when I got mine I was off school so I would maybe take a week or 2 off if possible to get him/her settled.

One of our cats eats a lot of birds.. but HATES beaks. There is bird heads outside the back door and on the patio sometimes >_<

The other cat catches a lot of mice and doesnt eat them, just lines them up underneath the window by the table and chairs.

Cats are strange.

the mice are a present for you :)

Yes, cats are stupid, in a loveable way. Ours have yet to learn the yelling, chasing forcing them to drop the mice and releasing them is our way of saying please don't bring us anymore.

We got two kittens aswell, we kept them inside for a few weeks as they were tiny, grew insanely fast, let them wonder very close to the house in our back garden and within a couple months were climbing scarily high in tree's then sleeping in them. THen winter came and they barely went out.

About 15 months old now and we leave the catflap open all day, they go in and out as they please, are happy to sleep half the day, go out, stay in generally when its wet, beg for food off friendly neighbours. HE tends to be stupidly friendly and has been inside most of the houses on our road, she isn't and most of our neighbours have seen her but she's only been in a couple of houses and usually won't let anyone stroke her other than us.

They should be fine despite the long shifts, they should also be fine within a couple days knowing where and when to use the litter tray, ours got shown where to go by their mother before we'd gotten them and once they knew where it was they never had an issue. I think we literally yesterday had the first poop accident in the house, we'd accidentally shut the door to the room with the cat flap in and she went and pooped on a mat by the other door, but she was ill and apparently unable to hold it, normally they are fine with holding it in. Cats are very weird about pooping apparently and don't like to go except in a clean place they don't usually hang out so they hold it in till they can get out.

Just make sure on days you do the shift work to knacker them out before you leave, 10 mins instense string chasing should do the trick, and play with them when you get in. Ours certainly chase each other around when they aren't playing with us, sometimes they just run around on their own. We previously had a cat for 18 years and she generally didn't play around because she was on her own. She was very happy though, she just loved to sleep all day long.
