Fake Dumpvalve / Turbo Whistle

I must stop being a big kid. :o

No, don't, I'd much rather hear a rig making that sound than some smacked up granny mugging chav in his latest BuyNowPayNever Credit Card Swindled 3 cylinder crapster SXIGTXLLL (with matching fabric interior and FM/tape player).

Dump valves are so crap. Don't know why people bother with them tbh...

nothing wrong with dump valves, they are kinda needed when you actually have a turbo. I had to change mine, the extra boost would have blown the diaphragm out of the standard one. nice little forge recirculating valve, with a nice chirp. not a silly wooosh! :-)

Although I have also been asked if my chirp is a fake one :-(

Someones sarcasm detector seems to be broken ;)

Dump valves are awesome. Especially on a Q car.

I remember a few years ago, I was coming out of the gym when a nice Black Evo 7 went past, "psssstchhhhh". I grinned and carried on walking.

Few seconds later, and another "pssssttchhhhh". I turned around to see a chavved up Corsa. Oh how I laughed :D

I've got some ghey cheapo dump valve on mine atm. Seriously miss the sound my old HKS SSQV (clone) made :(

The standard bosch one can handle more psi Oaksey, I run mine for a while after getting it remapped (peak 16.7psi). I've never actually seen/heard of anyone smashing up a diaphragm, but always here people saying it can happen.

I do have a nice Forge like yourself now as I wanted to play with different springs. (The green spring in the forge is weaker than the standard bosch) so have got a green, yellow and spacers to play with.

I'm running yellow at the moment, seems to be ok. just over 18psi. I do like the chirp, don't think I'd get on with a loud atmos to be honest. just seems a bit chavvy (no offence to anyone who has one)

Quite ;)

Oaksey, I have a Forge atmos dump valve on my car, it's an old granddad mobile and I love it :D - when I change gear when giving beans I love the almighty "VVVPP - TSSCH" - inbetween the crappy standard exhaust notes :D

I dont think anyone can say dump valves are crap. The sound of this supra is awsome - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD09EiXxABE.

But fake ones are very sad.

must admit that sounds lovely! not over the top, just a lovely noise and the car to match. may have to adjust my sweeping statement slightly!

Also I may have to get a jap monster at some point! :-) need to get rid of these damn points, the golf is bad enough for now!

Isn't that Supra running an external wastegate?

There's a video of a 200sx with an external wastegate and a screamer pipe and that sounds similar.

i fitted one of my fiesta ST and it does make it sound faster.

the above statement is absolutely untrue, just me trying to be funny

Dump valves are win.

I used to run without a dump valve but it didn't sound as chirpy as I would have liked.

When I get a new turbo in the future, I'll definitely be running without a DV!

IMNSHO there's one, and only one, time when a DV is good: in a true sleeper, where a turbo has been fitted to a car which wouldn't normally have one. What on earth is the point of changing a recirc to a VTA on a car which normally has a turbo, like an Evo? People who recognise the car know it's a turbo, and those who don't recognise it don't care. And if the car doesn't have a turbo then no-one who has got over acne will be impressed. Before I had the turbo changed on my car you could just about hear the valve, but only just. Now you can hear what sounds like a DV but actually isn't: the recirc dumps a load of pressurised air into the intake which then blows out through the induction filter.

As for fake turbo whistle...

And out of interest, does anyone do fake nitrous vents? Complete with gas? Seems the logical next step.
