Fake i7 cpu's

I've had a fake game from a reputable etailer before. Seriously high quality. I would have never known if it hadn't failed to patch. Must have been organised crime. That's what I think happened at Newegg too.

Havn't heard of any fake copu's in years, last one i think were pentium 4's from quite a few years back. And they actually worked but were lesser chips with some type of new id programmed int them to fool programs like cpuz

So are they just faking the packaging and reselling cheaper OEM processors as retail? I've heard about this kind of thing before?

Can't see they'd be faking the processors themselves as sure it's all but impossible to copy such a complex thing?

Did you not bother to look at the pictures? They are completely fake, not even working parts, just what looks to be fibreglass moulds with printouts on them to make them "look" real!

Currently using pritt stick thermal compound on these getting 4.2 ghz on air.

It is possible to be fair. All the manufacturers produce this kind of junk especially for big retailers that put things on show. We could get similar things from Intel if we asked but since we're mainly an e-tailer it's a bit pointless.

We've had dummy memory, graphics cards, hard drives and all sorts in the past. Someone even pinched the dummy Lacie "Lego" drive when we were at the Imex...shame it was nothing more than a paperweight.:D

But they surely usually have "For Display Purposes Only" on them, or "Not for Resale"?

This came in a bona fide Intel box, complete with the correct product code, hologram and even a legitimate stepping on it.

Edit: The stepping on the box doesn't match the one on the CPU. To me it sounds like someone has got hold of a bunch of legit boxes and just filled them with junk so they look the real deal on the outside.

Wow, that's ****** up!!

I can just imagine the sheer rage that the people experienced when they received one of these instead of their shiny new i7 processor!!!
