Falcon running Vertex FW?

It's an interesting article and agrees with things I've been saying for a while about OCZ's support. Flashing isn't a major drama if you keep an up to date image using something like Acronis as it doesn't take long to completely restore the system afterwards (certainly well faster than a reload from scratch) - but as they say in the article if you were to prepare the GSkill Falcon by flashing to Vertex firmware then you could use OCZ's bootable USB method for future firmware updates which means no lost data so no more needing images etc. And as a bonus users would benefit from OCZ's support and firmware updates as according to that article they are better than GSkill's.

So, overall not a huge hassle - flash it to Vertex firmware when you get it and job done!

I agree that the Vertex FW is much more sensible (and you dont have to register to download it), but it voids the warrenty, which on a expensive cutting edge device is nice to have.

Is is possible to flash back to G.Skill FW if you were to RMA it or sell it on? I've not seen anything on that and would neatly sidestep the warrenty issue. :)

Also, could you point me to the best SSD settings for Win7? Or is set up out the box.

Cheers.

Don't know about re-flashing back to GSkill to avoid warranty issues, but I guess if you got to the point of needing to use the warranty you might not have the ability to reflash, so it's a chance to take I guess.

As far as Win7 settings go, I did the std disabling of Superfetch, Indexing, Defrag etc and I turned on the Write back cache for the drives, other than that nothing needed iirc.
