It seems to me that alcohol is becoming something that people drink much less in the day and much more at night now. I'm not talking about getting utterly lashed, but merely having one drink just to enjoy the taste rarely seems to happen now.
For example - in very few jobs do people have lunchtime pints any more. It's hardly as if one pint of bitter or lager is going to have much influence on productivity. Visitors to property no longer seem to enjoy drinks as a token of hospitality.
I specifically remember when about 15 years ago the police came round to talk to my father about something and he sat there with the officer enjoying a whisky whilst he explained the problem.
We just had a plumber over here and I offered him a beer (it's about 1830, figure it must be his last call) and he looked at me as if I were utterly insane.
Yet people think nothing of drinking 32 units in an evening and going into work still utterly lashed in the morning.....
EDIT> i'm a cretin. move to GD please.
