Anyone else find these game quite hard at parts for survival?

I played through Oblivion and found gaining money and surviving a lot easier than in Fallout.

I have just grabbed the radio component and re-connected for galaxy news. Doing that i must have had to quick save, die ,die , die ,die , manage to kill ,quick save. It was just not very fun.

Any ideas?

Yeh, getting money in fallout 3 is a lot harder than Oblivion. I just went murderer and killed everyone, taking all their monies :)

Yeah I remember finding certain parts of the game ridiculously difficult. You eventually reach a plateau as you level up and it becomes much easier. If you're really stuck it might be worth going back a few saves and completing side quests to get your levels up

that is what i have been doing. I returned to megaton and done a few quests within there. My armor seems pretty dire and that could be a big issue. That and running out of ammo is an issue.

It's hard at first because you get through all your health and ammo killing a tiny enemy, only to walk round the corner and get attacked by another but that doesn't last too long as you level up. Borderlands is very weighted when it comes to character levels. Try to kill a level 10 baddie when you're on level 6 and it's very hard. Get to level 10 yourself and it's ok then. Get to level 20 and you can take down a level 10 with one blow.

those are the only 2 games of that type I have played, Borderlands being the first. I started off trying to play as a FPS game. When I got to the scap yard bloke (mad dog?) I almost gave up because I just couldn't kill him. Went away to do other missions and then killed him with ease as I'd levelled up. Also with that game, the bounty board missions show a difficulty against your current level. So if you leave some 'very hard' missions and come back to them later on, they will change to 'very easy'

I found that it kept me interested.

As gazzab said you do reach a point where it levels out and becomes easier - However when I reach this point I tend to crank up the difficulty! I don't like an easy ride lol.

I recently got and am playing through the GOTY edition and some of the new top end 'baddies' are giving me a challenge at level 25. Loving it!

I found it difficult until I learnt about VATS then it was quite easy - hide around a corner and wait for them to come around and blow them away!

Fantastic game and on my fourth play through now. I much prefer it to New Vegas where I find the story isn't as good.

Currently playing through this at the moment.

Early in the game I just robbed and murdered everyone and stashed all my gear in the Supa Dupa Mart (after clearing all the raiders).

With all the duplicates you get it's easy to keep your gear repaired and sell on when needs be.

If you really want a challange play it with the mods MMM and FWE... then its really evil

Things were a decent challenge, nothing too major but definitely required concentration, until i finished the alaska war thing DLC (was a while ago now). A reward from that was a chinese stealth suit and the game became so much easier, unfortunately with already high stealth etc going around invisible was just too addictive, up close and personal with an M4 carbine and VATS to the head, people dont survive.

Still at the start. About to begin the GNR quest. I basically rushed the city to get to the destination. Fighting my way would have been impossible, but the enemies just don't run as fast as you do (except ghouls).

Still, It's a shame having to glitch the game.

Surely that was more a bug than anything else? Super Mutant Overlords and Feral Ghoul Reavers (there's some equally tough guys in Point Lookout as well) are a joke compared to everything else (even Deathclaws). Even with every attribute at 10, 100 on the weapon skills, and some good perks, they do not die easily. For comparison purposes, the rank down from those two enemies can be killed with a single shot to the head, and that's not even with my most powerful guns.

There are tons of mods that make the game easier if you want to!

Anyway, keep putting points in to small guns and make sure you repair your weapons regularly.

Also, the feral ghoul reaver are ridiculous, as are the Albino Rad Scorpions, they are by far the hardest enemies in the game, but there are mods which halve their health

Worst thing about those rad scorpions was you needed sick AP to go any real damage, you could blaze away with SMGs/Assault rifles and their health would barely drop.

Feral ghoul reavers I think I hit problems in some underground subway system near the white house, luckily by that point I had a big stockpile of stimpacks and ammo, it was actually quite nice to be able to eat up a few hundred rounds I'd been saving up.

I'm at level 53 and find it very hard to kill just one Albino Rad Scorpion!

I am using the mod which halves the health of Feral Ghoul Reavers though, and i have it set so that they spawn randomly in the wasteland:eek:

If your playing Fallout 3 with Operation Anchorage DLC, it's a good idea to do that straight way, you automatically get Power Armor training and and the Winterized T51b PA, which will help at lower levels, it's nearly indestrucatable.

I find it easy and havent modded the difficulty at all, only the graphics and travellers etc.
Best thing to do is crouch so you know when you're hidden and keep stealing stuff to sell. Build your repair skill up so you can repair your gear and lock pick so you can carry on stealing. I also did loads of side quests before the main one. I didn't visit galaxy until I was about level 17, but I had done almost every side quest already for Megaton, Arfu, the vampires, Bigtown etc :)

Once you've level up some and start collecting more expensive weapons coming by money is easier. Also if you do all of the Survival Guide in Megaton properly you get 7000 caps. I'm now level 30 and need a mod to keep levelling higher but have 26000 caps and nothing to spend it on. I have 3 of every power armour all fixed to 100% and spares of all my weapons so I can repair them when needed. :D

Oh and no till in the game has any money left in it lol :D

Default for FWE mod makes leveling wayyyy slower. Dont think I'm even into double figures yet :D Think its almost 3x slower.

the hardest bit was near the beginning by the supermarket and that small town with that lost boy in the bog and those ants....that is solid, but after that it gets a lot easier as the supermarket is like weapon heaven! so my advise get to the supermarket, might take a lot of saves and reloads to complete but after that its GG!

the beginning is tricky bc i found its easy to go in the wrong direction and end up in places with big scary monsters! but once you figure it out and get to megatron then theres a lot their to guide you.

also install the 999 carry mod, so much better and not exactly cheating, just saving you walking to and fro all the time.
