Am playing fallout 3 via steam on a dell U2913WM using a gtx 590 have tried everything and the max I can play at is 1920 x 1080. Cant quite understand it every other game I have played allows me to go to 2560 x 1080 is this something peculiar to fallout 3?

Fine on Lego Lotr

Would appreciate any advice on this as I really want to get stuck into fallout 3 and get the 100% :)

Your aspect ratio is totally wrong unless the game supports 21:9 (few ever will BTW) your just seeing a stretched/distorted image! Adjust your monitor so it provides 16:9 then it will look natural but with black borders otherwise your square pixels are distorted & will make most games look odd. Most HD content right now is designed for 16:9 displays both movies & games so your 21:9 is only going to look ok on movies which have an AR of 2:37 to 1 (this is what Phillips designed the first 21:9 HDTV for to display Cinemascope movies in their native 2:37 to 1 format).

Thanks for your input AWC am still trying to get around aspect ratios etc. I think I get what you mean that pic is stretched so I took 3 with the settings displayed which one seems most natural and not distorted to you?

Just my luck I went on the hunt for one of those Philips jobbies - discontinued grrrrr

Thanks in advance :)

2560 x 1080 16:10

2560 x 1080 "from screen res" this one looks the best to me but the stud counter looses a digit :D

2560 x 1080 16:9

Middle one mate looks best but your display is still stretching the image to fill the display. I would try a 16:10 aspect ratio resolution like 1920x1200 with the black borders either side it will look more natural overall. There is a good reason 21:9 displays are not very popular with gamers due to the aspect ratio issue they are great for Cinemascope movies @ 2:37:1 as thats all they were designed for originally anything else is a compromise & it can also mess up the FOV on FPS games so your better having the black border or trying to find a close solution by stretching a custom resolution but most games will not support 21:9 so its always going to be a compromise.

I would go to the forums here & see what others say they are more likely to have other solutions like oversampling the image etc etc

Thanks again for your advice much appreciated. I did buy the monitor with productivity in mind so its not a big spoiler but I do like the odd game and wondered what I was doing wrong.

Will have a good read on wsgf Cheers :)
