Fallout 3 GOTY Question

I know this game crops up regularly on these boards but I'm still undecided on whether it's something I'd like. It's on sale on Steam but I keep chucking money at their cheap, irresistable wares and then never play them.

I loved Fallout 1 and 2, so I know I'll like the humour and the game universe. On the other hand I bought Morrowind and found I didn't like it and then also bought Oblivion (to give things another chance) and also didn't get on too well with that either. It's the age-old issue of monsters levelling up to match me that I hate, but equally don't want to spend ages modding it as I just want to enjoy the game without messing about.

Does Fallout 3 feel more like a Fallout game, or will it feel like a reskinned Morrowind?

I was in the same boat, I did buy both Oblvivion and FO3 on the 360 and didn't really get on with either but then I took my chances and bought the Quakecon Pack hoping that on PC it would be a different story.

So far I'm enjoying it more although I don't think I've done anywhere near enough to be able to offer more advice. FO1 & 2 were truly awesome though, Tactics too!

For the price it is at atm take your chances I'd say...

I bought the retail version a few months ago for a tenner, best £10 I've spent!

It's a fantastic game the with the all the extras you get in the GOTY It's absolutely huge!

You get out of it what you put in. If you just toodle around doing what you're directed to do you'll find it pretty bland (And miss out on most of the goty content). So, as long as you get out there and explore you'll have a blast!

I hated Oblivion (even though I loved Morrowind). But I LOVE FO3 :D It's much better than Oblivion so I highly recommend.

Just get it. It is amazing.

If you don't like the mosters levelling system, download a mod to change it. Also there are mods designed to make it simialr to FO2 if you liked that

I didn't get on with oblivion but loved FO3 if it helps. The leveling monsters isn't so much an issue as the weaponry you get will blitz anything.on the default difficulty, you'll likely need to crank it up a bit. Depending on how much you want to achieve you may want to look at the beforeiplay.com entry for this game: http://beforeiplay.com/index.php?title=Fallout_3

Just started Fallout 3. I've finished New Vegas, and I like FO3 better so far. It's a bit more leasurly and loose, whereas NV seems more focused on a core story line. Really enjoyed both really. Will probably start a new NV campaign soon after I finished FO3.

I don't know how out of date that article is, but i would disagree with 90% of it! Actually i can't tell, is it being serious?

Seriously?? I definitely think it's the other way round. FO3's story is way more focussed than NV.

Let me know what you think of it. I bought it expecting so much after Fallout 1 and 2. Worse £35 i spent. I regret it so much.

I loath Bethesda for ruining what was an amazing game/universe.

I might load it back up with some mods to see if it makes a difference for me but then again i hated Oblivion so perhaps its just the view point.

in FO3, so far, I haven't found the main thread to the story, but I just started, outside Megaton, and did a couple of long quests. NV sets the tone much earlier on imo. Maybe it just takes longer to kick off.

I found NV is pretty much all about Mr House, the Republic and Ceasar's Legions, then meeting the various tribes and getting them to side with you or destroy them.

Playing Fallout 3 atm (level 53, 160 hours in:eek:, been playing for a bout 6 months) i played through the main quest first. Just went straight through it, maybe doing 1 or 2 side quests along the way.

Now i ahve done the main story i can go around exploring doing all the sidfe quests, dlc's and mods.
The main story is very focussed. In NV it is very vague(which actually improves it imo) you get fuzzy objectives such as "make contact with the Boomers" which branch out into massive quest lines. I think it suits it really well because you can easily do side quests along with the main story

Nice vid that.

Though it doesn't mention that half of the mods are included together in various packs so you could get all of them in about 5 downloads.

Some strange shots supposedly "showing off" some of them too
