im tempted to buy fallout 3 goty as i never got into it before
i just wanted to know a few things, does it require the disk in the drive to play

if it does ill get the steam version but that leads to question 2, what are the chances of steam lowering the price for a special offer when the new one comes out? :p i have seen them do it for a few games before but i dont know if its common or not

I've got the GotY edition and it doesn't require the dvd in the drive but you will need to use/install Games for Windows Live (even if you buy it on Steam), as that's how they implement the expansion packs.

I have the GoTY version and it does require the CD in to play. The original version didn't (once you changed the shortcut).

thanks for the replies, i just found it for £10.99 new so i bought it :)
if i have to i suppose i could find a no dvd crack :P

by the time i have got around to playing it and if i like the game then finishing it i should be able to pick up the new one for a decent price too

you can play any game without disks. just get a nocd crack. saves scratching your disks. And for me fallout 3 was one of the greatest games ever made.

Fallout 3 retail version doesn't need a crack, the protection is on the game launcher, not the executable. Run the executable directly and you don't need to put the disc in the drive.

Wow, you're right.
The shortcut I use is to the Fallout3.exe and it never asks for the DVD.
Just launched the FalloutLauncher.exe and it asks for the DVD.

Doh! :)

Yeah I found it a bit meh as well.

Maybe I am just too old and less patient for these kind of games but I found it boring.

I KNOW there is a cracking game there. Just not for me sadly.

Yeah, that was my issue with it. I'm not a fan of sandbox games. I like to have a bit of direction in what I'm doing.
Some people like to wonder around, looking under every stone you can look under and creating their own adventure. I like to be pointed in a direction or at a target and then deal with. Then I wanted to be pointed at something else.

Indeed. Usually to shoot the crap out of whatever it is as well. :D

I did, and still do really enjoy Just Cause 2 though. Open world sanbbox like Fallout 3. It just involves blowing the hell out of everything. Which I really like.

Grr, I played my brothers copy of Fallout 3 when it came out, not played it since, decided to buy the GOTY edition. My main memories of the first playthrough was constant crashing with no real fixes at any stage.

First well, hour, maybe two went by without a single issue, got to Megatron, did a few things outside, after a while in Megatron it now crashes constantly at everything I do, complete pain in the behind.

I also have semi issues with sandbox games in so much as, go the wrong place at the wrong time and its a pee take, go too late to a certain area and its so easy its just not fun.

Meh, if I could load into a single place once before it crashed at this point it might be fantastic again. How on earth can it be so unstable :(

i've installed it twice and tried to get into it also but Every time I get to megaton I just get bored and/or creamed on my first run in with some serious bad guys and give up in a huff.
