started fallout 3 last week after completing dragon age and im around 8 hours into it

now one thing that's annoying the hell out of me is the 3sec delay when entering VATs

ive tried searching the net and ive found loads of posts with people that have the problem but no real solutions

is it anything to do with graphics drivers cpu etc or anything

is it something ALL users get or only some?

really ruining my enjoyment of the game

specs are 920 @ 4.2 6GB 260GTX Win7 x64

patched up to 1.7

I noticed the delay at first, but i can't say it is something i notice now (3rd time through).

Have you put the settings to minimum?

I played it on X360 before PC, and I admit the delay did annoy me a little at first, but having exhausted a great deal of the game now, I can't say it does anymore.

I had that annoying delay on my old PC but not my new one. Trawled the internet for a fix too but all I found were other people with the same problem but no solution.

I worked around it by just not using VATs... not a big deal really, half the time its easier to hit if you don't use it.

I've played it on the PS3 and my PC I've not really noticed any delay and your spec seems a lot better than my current setup. There's a short delay whilst the action is paused and the camera refocuses on your target, is that what you're referring to?

I have always had a delay through numerous reinstalls, new gfx card, mobo etc. There was only one time when I didn't have a VATS delay, and that was with vanilla (unpatched) fallout 3. However, the unpatched version had other bugs that caused it to crash often, so it needs patching up imo.

Surprised it's still a problem after so many patches though.

Just think of it as computer CPU scanning the attributes of the enemy then pin pointing each and every point for you - giving a delay. I like that illusion. :p

One thing I personally noted was that when I played it through on vanilla (i.e. just installed off the disk, no updates) it was fine. When I patched it up to play the addons thats when I saw it - though - to be honest - I don't notice it now.
