Is is possible to play the DLC without installing GFWL? I was able to play the original but as soon as i install the DLC i get the

'The ordinal 5360 could not be located in the dynamic link library xlive.dll'

error. Most fixes for this i have seen involve installing GFWL.

Is there anyway to avoid GFWL?

Why do you want to avoid windows live?

What's so bad about it? I mean it doesn't actually DO anything.

Apart from giving log in errors and stop people from playing game every now and then :) Or at least I had major probs with it and Dawn of War

Meh, if you ignore it and don't login then theres no problems. Sure you don't get achievements but at least then it can't decide to (for some stupid frigging reason) save your games in a different place so it can't find them if you don't login...

This becuase fallout dlc needs a newer version of gfwl than what comes on the disc (i know)

Get the latest update from the gfwl and they should work fine and i dont think there is a way of playing with with out gfwl

Without it installed i dunno, without it logged in theres no problems at all.

To be honest in the case of Fallout 3 saying you can't play because GfWL is buggy is like saying you won't fly a plane with no wings because you don't have the right shoes. GfWL is the least of your worries.

Lol, indeed. Though tbh i don't have as many problems with it as some people try to say. I have had some very bizarre game-breaking bugs where going anywhere near the metro station north of Rivet City = CTD and on a hill near the Fort en-route to Tenpenny Tower it would also CTD around the same area. I think they've more or less fixed themselves now though, i've never really had an issue with random CTDs.

Though the issue with starting a DLC after your level 20 is a pain, crashes constantly so its best to start a new char.

Yes update GFWL then leave it

It should work fine, Fallout 3 will save games differently depending on if you are logged into GFWl and if you are not.
It is a wonderful system that should work perfectly, but horrible GFWL makes the whole process so slow, and clicking so random (click downa dn to the left of the boxes anyone?) that it makes the whole process most irritating.

I play FO3 under GFWL just as thats what I've always done, but now on a replay, my first with all the DLCs installed, i am getting horribleamount of FO3 lockups and deaths when in point outlook, it is most irritating. Wasteland was fine, but lockups abound in PO, I have tried all the fixed, FLC variants FLV variants, setting 2 core only, and nothing has helped. They finished productions of the main core of the game 1 patch too early.

I am hoping for a final patch at some stage but doubt it'll arrive, as a separate company have picked up the rights and source code for new vegas.

Same. In fact, I don't recall GFWL causing me any problems at all, and I have like eight games that use it. I'm either lucky or people seriously exaggerate how bad it is.

I was talking about Fallout 3.

GFWL is ********. The single most useless piece of junk i've ever been forced to install. Personally i will never forgive the 3 times i had to start, update, close and reopen Red Faction Guerilla to get that pile of **** working properly.

It's pointless, I'll give you that, but I really don't see how it's as bad as people claim it to be.

And whether you were talking about Fallout 3 specifically or not doesn't really matter, as surely GFWL will act/run the same for all titles that use it? If it's going to give you grief for one title, the chances are it's going to give you grief for them all (or at least a good percentage of them).

No the issue was it updating in such a moronic way. Instead of updating itself once to the most recent, it instead made me update it 3 times. On top of that, instead of updating itself automatically, it gave me absolutely moronic questions with only 1 answer, that is, "update or GFWL won't run and boo sucks to you", WHY EVEN ASK!

It has zero usability and as FO3 showed, wasn't even ported properly since the pointer and the actual position don't line up correctly. Ironic for Microsoft to not bother doing it properly though i suppose its also quite fitting.

People who complain about GFWL really need to get a grip

1: You can completely disable it just look in the options & disable all notifications + use an offline profile for Fallout3 then it will sit in the background forever & you will never know its there. For almost every GFWL game you can do the same if you hate it that much as unlike Steam it does not force you to be connected either as it will run forever with an offline profile if the game supports it (which is down to the publisher anyway not MS).

2: 99.9% of all GFWL issues are user related for firewall & or ports not opened properly.

3: There are some very young gamers on the official GFWL forums who can play GFWL titles with no issues whatsoever so your really embarassing yourself when you whine/moan about GFWL issues & live in one of the 26 supported countries when young people from all over the world who enjoy playing GFWL titles can do so with ease :p

Just look on GFWL official forums all the answers/tech support you need is there ;)

The real reason most PC gamers hate GFWL is that now its starting to make it harder to steal/pirate your game's isn't it as the publishers have asked MS to tighten up DRM but even then its still less draconian than Securom or Steam ;)

This is nonsense. GFWL games are pirated just as easily as any other, and the pirates don't have to install GFWL. In fact, saying pirates hate GFWL because of its DRM, and then pointing out it isn't as draconian as securom or steam pokes a hole in your logic, considering Securom and steam do nothing to stop games being pirated.

The people who don't like GFWL have probably had issues with it, like I did. Some youngsters having it working fine is meaningless- this is the PC we are talking about: any software release will work fine for the majority of users, but cause problems for a number of others due to differences in hardware and software in the machines. GFWL is definitely less mature than steam and causes more problems - especially when it needs to update.

like you said, you just make an off-line profile if you're a pirate ;)

Lol, perhaps you need to get a grip yourself.

1. We know GFWL can be set to offline mode or just not logged in.

2. My issues with it are that is ****, not that i have problems running.

3. Get a grip and understand the issue.

We know of your single minded whining about piracy in all its forms but it tends to help if only apply to situations it actually has any part in.
