Hi all.

Hoping for some help...

Basically I am unable to get Fallout 3 to run. I am Using the Titan Nero setup which I bought recently:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-180-OK
with an ASUS 4870 rather than the 4850.

The game installs without issue and I can fire up the exe. The problem happens when I try to start a new game. The Loading graphic spins around then after around 5 seconds Windows 7 tells me the program has stopped responding etc.

I have tried re-installing and trying to run with no AA AF and graphics at medium, V-SYNC on and off as well as the settings it finds for itself.

I have had a Google and I think that at this stage there is an intro video. I have read that if you have installed a codec pack that contains FFD or FFS codec (believe that's what they are called...) that the game has issues here.

I had previously installed the K-Lite mega pack and have uninstalled it but alas, no joy.

Kinda stuck for ideas now. I am running everything at stock with Windows 7 and the latest Cat's.

Been loving playing Dirt, HL2 EP2, Streetfighter 4 and Burnout - but now would love to get into something deeper ;)

Any advice appreciated,

Nathan.

Fallout 3 has issues full stop.
If it's decided it doesn't like your system (or even you, given it suffers from the exact same problems on two totally different PCs I own for no apparent reason) then there's pretty much nothing you can do.
Yes, it's rubbish.

Fallout 3 was such a great game, yet it had so many bugs, I think 7/10 had the micropauses.

And the fact that are exploiting the franchise so hard makes me :(

Have you loaded the latest patch onto the install?

Some cause issues, some fix issues, it's a bit hit and miss, but an awesome game once it's running.

Windows 7 eh? Even if you get it to run you may well run in to random CTD's as I did. Not too frequent mind and it does work fine in XP.

Sorry to hijack, but the thread doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast...

Do I have much chance (bugs aside) of running Fallout 3 on an AMD X2 3800+, 1gb DDR 3200, ATI X1800 ?

Thanks

It'll run fine on mediumish setting on a sensible res :)

Completely unpatch the game and try again. Theres a lot of cases of it purely hating ATI cards for some odd reason :S

The new patches seem to break more than they resolve. I played the entire main quest line through to the end with 0 crashes or problems on my 8800 GT on top graphics settings. That was unpatched. problems arose when i updated though

I'm running on at 6800 agp card so it can run on even older systems, just the bugs causing issues. Fully patch and see how it goes.

It kept crashing on me too, after research I found it was something in the the Asus Xonar control panel being switched on

Thought I'd mention it just incase

Never had a single crash on my but I am using vista and ati trying running it in compatibility mode maybe and in a window and not fullscreen

I guess i was lucky then as i had no issues with FO3 at all on Vista 64 with patch 1.6 and loads of mods, as well as the DLC's, Broken steel, the Pitt and Point Lookout. Thought it was a very good game. I did'nt have GFWL installed though as i downloaded the expansions on this pc, stuck them on a USB stick and then placed them manually into the Fallout3/data folder in the rig in my siggy.

My copy was crashing every time I went inside a building in some areas. Turned out to a problem with the third thread crashing, so I promptly turned my i7 into a dual core in the bios and it worked fine.
